This is a technical leadership position within the eGRID business of Hatch. It provides an opportunity for professional growth to the selected individual within eGRID by engaging in business development and marketing, client relationship management, and work-winning activities, team building, and working on systems analysis investigations and planning/feasibility studies for clients in North America and around the world.
The selected candidate is expected to lead and mentor a group of system studies engineers globally, while also contributing to the growth of Hatch’s project portfolio through proactive client engagement and opportunity development.
The incumbent of this position is required to work within focused study teams and multi-disciplinary teams involved in integrated power system plans, transmission and distribution system plans, pre-feasibility/feasibility/system impact assessments, and system performance studies for both AC and DC project developments and generation/load connections. Client engagement, business development, and proposal leadership—including identifying leads, developing opportunities, and supporting the conversion of opportunities into awarded work—are essential elements of the role.
The person will perform the duties in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including all of Hatch’s policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental, and Quality Assurance. The incumbent should be familiar with NERC/FERC policies, guidelines, regulations, requirements, and criteria as applicable to network performance and planning, especially to bulk power systems. Knowledge and experience of relevant requirements in different NERC Regional Reliability Councils and other jurisdictions will be an added advantage.
Role and Responsibilities

Business development to generate leads, build and maintain client relationships, expand existing accounts, secure MSAs, prepare proposals, and actively contribute to winning new work

Expertise in power system studies with emphasis on EMT analysis

Perform or coordinate systems analysis activities including load-flow, short-circuit, transient stability, electromagnetic transient, and small-signal stability analysis

Preparation of functional specifications for facility requirements related to different system development portfolios, for purposes of developing preliminary designs and obtaining estimates for the associated facilities

Review of planning/system performance studies for compliance with prevailing standards and criteria and good engineering practice

Prepare comprehensive reports on the conduct of the studies, the study results, and appropriate conclusions and recommendations

Prepare and deliver presentations to clients, including supporting early-stage client discussions and solution development

Project management

Mentor and develop junior engineers within the department

Maintain close coordination with other relevant Hatch Business Units and Practices for cross-selling and cross-staffing opportunities, contributing to broader account growth

Undertake thought leadership activities (e.g., speaker at conferences, panelist, white papers) and promote Hatch’s capabilities in the Power and T&D sector, including enhancing market visibility and supporting business growth initiatives
Qualifications

Degree in Electrical Engineering; preference for candidates with a Master’s or PhD in Power Systems

Registration with a Canadian provincial engineering association (or eligibility for registration)

Strong familiarity with EMT software such as PSCAD, with experience in AC and DC system studies, including generation, transmission, renewable energy, battery storage, HVDC, and other inverter-based resource systems

Ability to mentor junior/intermediate users and carry out QA reviews; knowledge of RTDS or EMTP is an asset

Familiarity with PSS®E, including load-flow, short-circuit, and transient stability modules, as well as batch programming using Python; knowledge of DSA Tools, PSLF, or DigSilent is an asset

Minimum 10 years of experience in power system analysis and planning, with demonstrated exposure to client engagement, proposal development, or business development activities considered a strong asset
