Multimedia Programmer / STEM Instructor

Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Monday to Friday)
Compensation: $17 per hour
About Uplift Summer Camp:
Join our vibrant Uplift Summer Camp, hosted by Oasis of Grace Family and Multicultural Centre in Calgary, AB! We’re seeking a creative Arts and Crafts Instructor to inspire youth aged 9–15 through fun, hands-on workshops.
Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents aged 18–30, passionate about sparking imagination and personal growth.
Job Description:
The STEM Instructor delivers daily interactive lessons that introduce campers ages 10 to 15 to coding, robotics, engineering concepts, mathematical thinking, and problem-solving. This role includes teaching block-based and text-based coding, guiding robotics missions, facilitating Minecraft Education projects, and building mental math skills through abacus work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver structured, age-appropriate STEM lessons including: block-based coding (Scratch, Code.org) and Python; LEGO Spike robotics (motors, sensors, coding logic); Minecraft Education for math, coding, and digital design; and abacus and mental math for skill-building.
- Guide campers through STEM projects such as games, animations, coding challenges, robotics missions, and engineering or design-thinking activities.
- Guide Group A (ages 10 to 12) in building a "My STEM Portfolio" with a Scratch game, robot mission video, Minecraft build, abacus/math badge book, and engineering project.
- Guide Group B (ages 13 to 15) in building a "My Tech Portfolio" including a Python project, robotic solution, Minecraft build, mental math certificate, AI exploration, and tech tool for their business.
- Support Group B campers in building digital tools for their business projects using design-thinking methodology.
- Prepare daily lesson plans, materials, technology, and equipment. Track camper progress and project outcomes.
- Support end-of-session presentations. Ensure safe use of devices, robotics kits, and STEM materials.
- Assist with general camp duties including check-in and check-out, classroom setup, lunch supervision, and outdoor activities.
- During pre-camp week (July 6 to 10): Set up STEM lab, test robotics kits, install software, develop 6-week curriculum, and prepare coding challenge materials.
- During post-camp week (Aug 24 to 28): Complete camper reports, inventory technology and equipment, and provide recommendations for 2027 STEM programming.
Qualifications
- Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, aged 18–30.
- Basic to intermediate proficiency in block-based coding (Scratch), Python, robotics, or related STEM tools.
- Experience teaching or working with youth ages 9 to 15.
- Coursework or background in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related STEM field.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and facilitation skills.
- Positive, patient, energetic attitude and passion for STEM learning.
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
- Clear Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in computer science, engineering, education, or a related field.
- Experience with LEGO Spike robotics, Minecraft Education, or abacus/mental math instruction.
- Familiarity with AI concepts and digital tool-building for beginners.
