The Research Assistant is a crucial member of our research team. Working from of our Red Deer Site and occasionally providing remote support to our Calgary or Vancouver locations, this role is responsible for crucial daily operational tasks of clinical trials. This includes preparing laboratory kits for patient visits, processing samples, managing clinic supplies and ensuring adequate inventory is maintained, data entry, general administrative support to team members, shipping and receiving of laboratory samples and supplies. Additionally, this role assists site staff with general support for ensuring readiness for study patient visits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare laboratory kits, source documents, and study materials for upcoming patient visits according to protocol requirements
- Process biological samples including centrifugation, packaging, labeling, storage, and shipment in accordance with study protocols and laboratory manuals
- Coordinate shipping and receiving of laboratory samples, investigational products, and clinical trial supplies
- Maintain accurate tracking logs for laboratory samples, shipments, and inventory
- Ensure all clinical trial materials and supplies are adequately stocked and organized at all times
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs proactively to avoid disruptions to study operations
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of clinic rooms, laboratory spaces, and research work areas
- Assist with preparation and setup for study participant visits and procedures
- Support research coordinators and investigators with day-to-day operational tasks related to clinical trials
- Complete accurate and timely data entry into electronic systems and study databases
- Review study documents for completeness and accuracy prior to filing or submission
- Organize, maintain, and archive study documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements and site SOPs
- Assist with scheduling and coordination of participant visits when required
- Communicate professionally with study participants, sponsors, CROs, laboratories, and vendors
- Follow all study protocols, sponsor requirements, site SOPs, and applicable regulatory guidelines
- Maintain strict confidentiality of participant information and clinical trial data
- Support clinic staff during monitoring visits, sponsor visits, audits, and inspections
- Assist with resolution of data queries and follow up requests from sponsors or CROs
- Prepare study related materials including labels, worksheets, requisitions, and participant documents
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and documentation of temperature sensitive materials and laboratory specimens
- Monitor and document laboratory equipment maintenance, calibration, and temperature logs
- Assist with maintaining compliance with Health Canada, ICH GCP, and institutional requirements
- Identify and communicate operational issues or protocol concerns to the research team promptly
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and ongoing professional development activities
- Support cross functional teamwork between CaRe Clinic locations as needed
- Provide occasional remote operational support to Calgary and Vancouver research sites
- Assist with implementation and improvement of clinic processes and workflows
- Maintain a high standard of professionalism, organization, and attention to detail in all aspects of work
- Contribute to a positive patient experience by delivering compassionate and efficient support throughout the research process
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in a fast paced clinical research environment
- Perform additional administrative or operational duties as assigned to support study and clinic success
Requirements:
- Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Preferred: Associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Desirable: Medical Office Assistant or Laboratory Assistant
- Minimum of 1-2 years of administrative experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
