Position Overview
Pollin Fertility is seeking a dual-skilled Andrologist & Phlebotomist / Laboratory Technician to join our Ottawa clinical team.
This unique hybrid role combines andrology laboratory responsibilities with patient-facing phlebotomy and diagnostic testing. The successful candidate will play a critical role in both laboratory operations and direct patient care, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy, quality, and compassion throughout the fertility journey.
Core Responsibilities
Andrology & Laboratory Functions
- Perform semen analysis, including sperm count, motility, and morphology assessment
- Prepare sperm samples for clinical procedures
- Perform sperm cryopreservation and manage storage
- Manage donor sperm inventory and thaw samples for procedures
- Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records
- Assist with inventory tracking and laboratory supply management
- Sterilize and maintain laboratory equipment
- Prepare and verify laboratory shipments
Phlebotomy & Diagnostic Testing
- Perform phlebotomy and collect patient samples (blood, urine, and other specimens)
- Process and prepare samples for laboratory analysis according to established protocols
- Perform fertility-related diagnostic testing, including hormone assays and specialized testing
- Prepare specimens and documentation for courier transport (e.g., Dynacare)
Quality & Compliance
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment
- Follow strict quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures
- Identify, document, and escalate discrepancies or lab errors
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, legal, and accreditation standards
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of laboratory procedures and policies
- Support clinic safety and infection control protocols
Patient Care & Team Collaboration
- Provide professional, compassionate, and confidential patient care
- Ensure proper patient identification and specimen labeling
- Communicate effectively with clinical and laboratory teams
- Contribute to a collaborative, respectful, and high-performing work environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Diploma in Phlebotomy, Medical Laboratory Technology, or BSc in Biology or related field
- Minimum 1 year of relevant laboratory experience, including phlebotomy
- Hands-on experience in andrology or fertility laboratory work strongly preferred
- MLPAO certification preferred
- CFAS certification (or eligibility) considered a strong asset
- Strong knowledge of patient identification and specimen handling protocols
- Understanding of regulatory and legal requirements for biological samples
- Demonstrated ability to follow rigorous quality control procedures
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced team environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Technical Experience (Preferred)
- Experience with Roche e411 / e402 or similar immunoassay platforms
- Hands-on experience with:
- Sample centrifugation and processing
- Daily QC procedures and documentation
- QC flag review and escalation
- Reviewing and validating results prior to reporting
- Proficiency in Google Docs, Sheets, and EMR systems

Working Conditions
- Clinic operates 7 days per week
- Hours: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Schedule: Monday to Friday with rotational weekends and holidays
