Full job description

Position Overview

Join our team to make a direct economic and social impact in our rural area. We are seeking two organized, outgoing students to lead the creation of two vital community assets: a Local Business Directory and a Volunteer Directory.

Your primary goal is to bridge the gap between our non-profit community centre, local merchants, other service organizations and citizens. You will pitch the benefits of our network—offering businesses valuable exposure on our website and in our monthly printed flyer—while building a centralized resource that helps rural residents easily find local services and community opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Outreach & Engagement: Contact local rural business owners and non-profit groups via phone, email, and in-person visits to pitch directory benefits.
Value Proposition: Explain how participating grants businesses marketing exposure on the centre's website and monthly community flyer.
Data Collection: Design and distribute simple intake forms to gather accurate business descriptions, contact details, logos, and volunteer requirements.
Directory Development: Build, organize, and categorize the digital databases for both the business and volunteer directories.
Content Creation: Draft concise, engaging business profiles and volunteer listings for the web directory.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with our website administrator and newsletter editor to seamlessly upload data and print listings.

Qualifications & Requirements

Enrolment: Completing high school or currently enrolled in a post-secondary program (Business, Marketing, Communications, Community Development, or related fields preferred).
Communication Skills: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the willingness to cold-call and network with local business owners.
Organization: High attention to detail with the ability to manage datasets accurately using Excel or Google Sheets.
Self-Starter: Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a hybrid (70% off-site) environment. Ability to collaborate with a student co-worker on the project.

What You Will Learn (Transferable Skills)

Project Management: Full lifecycle ownership of a community project from research to public launch.
Local Marketing: Hands-on skills in multi-channel content distribution (web and print layout).
Community development: Knowledge of rural community dynamics and small local economies.

This position provides an enriching opportunity for students eager to develop their leadership, organizational, and community engagement skills while making a meaningful impact within their local area.
