Sessional Instructor: ASTR 207, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Faculty of Science
The Department of Physics and Astronomy within the Faculty of Science invites applications for a Fall 2026 Term ASTR 207 Sessional Instructor.
The successful candidate will have responsibilities for lecture instruction and any other associated duties for this 3-unit course, including laboratory and tutorial components.
ASTR 207: Introduction to Astronomy I - The Solar System
ASTR 207 provides a comprehensive, descriptive overview of the solar system covering how ideas have changed from ancient times to today. The latest discoveries. The electromagnetic spectrum; telescopes and detectors; laws of planetary motion; planets, asteroids, comets, and the Sun. Formation of the solar system. Extra-solar planets and the possibility of extraterrestrial life. Possible field trip to the Rothney Astrophysical Observatory.
Fall 2026 Term Dates: Monday, Aug 24, 2026, to Thursday, Dec 24, 2026.
Delivery Mode: All course components will be delivered in person.
Teaching Schedule: TuTh 15:30 - 16:45.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate(s) should hold a MSc or PhD in Physics or a closely related field and have a demonstrated record of teaching effectiveness and engagement with students.
