SickKids' Health Absence Management Program (HAMP) supports employees through occupational and non-occupational health absences, accommodation, and return-to-work planning. The program is grounded in collaborative, respectful, and evidence-informed practices that promote safe, timely, and sustainable return-to-work outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to apply disability management best practices that support stay-at-work efforts and early, safe, and sustainable return-to-work following workplace or non-work-related illness or injury.
- Assess functional abilities and work capacity in relation to the essential duties of a position to support return-to-work and accommodation planning.
- Manage employee absences and adjudicate short-term disability benefits in a timely, consistent, and respectful manner.
- Review medical information and assess fitness for work in alignment with organizational processes and applicable legislation.
- Identify barriers to return-to-work and coordinate support, services, and resources to help employees return to work successfully.
- Provide administrative support related to status changes, benefit applications, referrals, and case coordination, as appropriate.
The HAMP Case Manager works independently while building effective working relationships with employees, external health-care providers, insurers, and internal partners, including medical consultants, leaders, union representatives, and human resources professionals.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, counselling, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and timelines.
- Demonstrated ability to apply sound, timely, and professional judgment in complex situations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Registered Nurse with a baccalaureate degree and/or diploma in nursing, another regulated allied health professional, or an equivalent combination of related education and recent, relevant disability management experience.
- Current registration and good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario or another applicable regulatory body (if applicable).
- Minimum of five years of experience in case management and/or disability management, including experience supporting mental health-related claims.
- Experience using tools such as physical demands analyses, cognitive demands analyses, ergonomic assessments, independent medical examinations, or vocational rehabilitation assessments to support disability management decision-making.
- Working knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Additional education or coursework in occupational health, disability management, or counselling.
- NIDMAR certification ' Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP).
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Experience in the health-care sector or a comparable complex, multi-site organizational setting.
- Experience working in both unionized and non-unionized environments, including an understanding of collective agreements, workplace policies, and organizational processes.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and the Employment Standards Act.
