Full job description

As the Lead Electrical Commissioning Engineer you will support the various stages of the Polar Max project. This role is responsible for overseeing and managing the commissioning of electrical systems at client sites located in Helsinki, Finland, and Lévis, Québec. This includes planning, coordination, execution, and documentation of all commissioning activities to ensure systems are installed and operating in accordance with project requirements, safety standards, and industry best practices. More specifically, you will:

Key Responsibilities

Support the Commissioning Department in developing vessel-specific commissioning documentation, task-specific risk analyses, permits to work, and livening up notices.
Organize and set up test configurations, ensuring all required equipment is onsite and available in accordance with test plans and standards.
Lead and coordinate the electrical aspects of commissioning and testing/trials, including pre-commissioning, commissioning, dock and sea trials, according to the written procedures, while ensuring progress is reported.
Present operational commissioned electrical systems to classification societies and client for witness testing and acceptance.
Obtain all required signatures from classification societies and client to complete commissioning documentation and formal closeout.
Adhere to all in-house health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies at all times.
Lead the electrical commissioning team to execute commissioning activities as per schedule and budget.
Ensure all electrical equipment and systems (e.g., transformers, switchgear, MCCs, UPS, generators, lighting, grounding, protection systems) are installed, tested, and commissioned as per design specifications.
Coordinate with production, engineering, and QA/QC teams to resolve installation and design issues.
Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), Site Acceptance Tests (SATs), and functional performance tests.
Supervise and document the pre-commissioning, energization, and start-up of electrical systems.
Ensure compliance with safety standards and site-specific procedures during commissioning activities.
Interface with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure seamless communication and progress of work.
Prepare and maintain detailed commissioning documentation, including test reports, corrective action lists, and handover records.

Requirements

Electrical Engineer with sea-going experience. A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is preferred.
Minimum of 10 to 15 years of relevant experience, including at least 8 years in electrical commissioning and 2 to 3 years in a leadership role.
Availability for regular travel to Helsinki Shipyard in Finland, from 2026 to early 2028.
Proven experience with a variety of automation systems across different vessel types.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word and Excel specifically.
Experience in operating medium-voltage power plants (11 KV).
11KV safety certification
Proven experience in commissioning large-scale electrical systems.
Strong understanding of electrical codes (e.g., NEC, IEC, IEEE) and safety standards.
Ability to read electrical drawings and use testing tools and software.
Experience in ABB distributed networks.
Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Proficiency in French and English (written and spoken). Fluency in English is required for this position, as you will interact with English-speaking suppliers, stakeholders or clients.
