Position Overview
C Brannon Construction is seeking a skilled and dependable Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter to join our team full-time, working across residential renovation and construction projects in Calgary and Surrounding areas.
This role is ideal for an experienced carpenter who takes pride in high-quality workmanship, can work independently, and is confident in managing a wide range of carpentry scopes on active job sites. The Journeyman Carpenter will play a key role in delivering projects efficiently and to a high standard, while also supporting site organization, problem-solving, and coordination with team members, trades, suppliers, and homeowners.
The successful candidate brings strong experience across demolition, framing, interior finishing, exterior work, and window and door installation, along with the judgment to navigate complex details, changing site conditions, and project demands with supervision of apprentices In addition to being a strong hands-on contributor, this individual will help set the standard on site through professionalism, reliability, safety, and craftsmanship.
Responsibilities
- Lead and execute construction and renovation scopes independently across all stages of carpentry work.
- Deliver all carpentry scopes at a consistently high standard, including demolition, framing, interior finishing, exterior james hardie or vinyl siding installation,basic concrete skills, floor coverings, deck construction, and window and door installation in retro fit applications.
- Handle complex layouts, details, and site conditions independently with minimal or no supervision.
- Plan and organize job sites to ensure materials, tools, and work areas are properly prepared before work begins.
- Anticipate site challenges and adjust work proactively to avoid rework, delays, or downstream trade disruptions.
- Maintain exceptional accuracy, finish quality, and compliance with applicable building codes and project requirements.
- Support site efficiency through strong task sequencing, sound judgment, and effective day-to-day decision-making.
- Expertly operate a wide range of hand and power tools.
- Execute precise measurements, cuts, and assemblies using wood, metal, and other construction materials.
- Independently install fixtures, finishes, structural elements, windows, and doors to a high professional standard.
- Perform comprehensive material takeoffs across entire projects.
- Optimize material selection based on cost, availability, quality, and performance requirements.
- Work directly with suppliers to source appropriate materials and help resolve supply issues or constraints.
- Understand how material decisions impact project margin, schedule, and coordination with downstream trades.
- Oversee material inventory and ensure equipment is secured and protected on job sites.
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe and optimal working condition.
- Uphold the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency on the job site.
- Act as a key point of contact for team members, subcontractors, suppliers, and homeowners, ensuring clear and professional communication.
- Provide informal leadership through expertise, accountability, and example.
- Mentor apprentices and less experienced carpenters by sharing best practices, technical knowledge, and workmanship standards.
- Be trusted to execute critical or high-risk carpentry work without direct oversight.
Requirements
- Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter certification required.
- Physical ability to perform strenuous manual labor and work in demanding site conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and complete advanced carpentry work to a high standard.
- Strong knowledge of residential construction methods, sequencing, and applicable code requirements.
- Proven ability to manage complex carpentry scopes, site conditions, and project details independently.
- Strong experience with material takeoffs, material planning, and supplier coordination.
- Exceptional attention to detail, finish quality, and workmanship.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with team members, subcontractors, homeowners, and suppliers.
- Mastery of hand and power tools relevant to advanced carpentry work.
- Proven work ethic, reliability, professionalism, and commitment to quality.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the carpentry field.
- Must have reliable transportation to travel to various job sites.
- Must own a functioning cell phone for communication.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Red Seal certification in Carpentry.
- Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in a carpentry apprenticeship or similar role, with significant experience working independently as a journeyman carpenter.
- Demonstrated experience across a broad range of carpentry scopes, including structural, finishing, and exterior work.
Working Conditions
- Work assignments may occur indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions.
- The role requires a high level of physical fitness, endurance, and the ability to safely perform demanding manual tasks.
Compensation
$34–$35/hour, depending on experience, including 1.5x overtime in accordance with Alberta Employment Standards.
