Title: Quality Engineer
Reports to: Sr. Manager IMS & Quality Engineering
Job Purpose:
To proactively reduce process variation, monitor quality concerns and initiate continuous improvements through various quality and lean manufacturing methods for North America, OEM and Pass-through business. The Quality Engineer (QE) will assist with global product launches (Stage Gate) and product changes (ECO) by working closely with PDT (Product Development & Technology) / PMO (Project Management Office). The QE will also support Production by working closely with MFG Engineering and Production Supervisors / Team leads / Plant Managers. The QE will support product testing and drive the quality culture to achieve the highest quality products for our customers.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Complete all required tasks for New Product Launches (Stage Gate) and Change Notifications (ECO) processes for North America, OEM, and Pass-through products. Complete all production part approval process (PPAP) and Product quality verifications (PQV) for our products. Maintain copies of all PPAPs & PQV documents, including all applicable documents from China, Mexico and any future facilities.
- Drive quality through use of flow charts, FMEAs, control plans, and value stream mapping. Apply data analysis and analytical ability to work on the most pertinent business issues. Develop technical solutions to a variety of problems of varying scope and complexity. Conduct capability studies on processes and apply statistical process control (Cp/CPK).
- Spearhead decisions in matters of significance to the customer experience, conduct problem solving to find root causes and implement internal Corrective Actions (CARs). Apply originality and ingenuity to improvement of practices and procedures. Interface with multiple functions within the company and with people of all levels of management/technical ability and lead teams that drive quality improvement. Follow up on CARs as required.
- Interface with other segments of the order fulfill process. Change the product lifecycle state from In-process to Active as per the PQV and/or the PPAP process.
- Develop quality line testing to ensure products meet CSA, KIWA, Intertek or any other regulatory partner requirements. Partner with manufacturing team leaders and supervisors to ensure quality processes are being followed, and products adhere to quality standards.
- Analyze the Lab inspections and tests with QA Techs for any product and/or part compliance as per specifications, validation plans, audit schedules, and/or product improvements.
- Utilize project management skills to initiate and lead improvements of a tactical nature. Promote positive relationships and influence others for timely customer/business solutions.
- Create quality related training materials and facilitate training. Actively mentor quality technicians.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings with the ability to accurately measure products and analyze drawings and engineering models for tolerance stack ups.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or QA diploma in engineering field preferred, or 5+ years of Equivalent experience in progressive roles in a comparable manufacturing environment.
- 5 years’ experience with bachelor’s degree and / or ASQ Certifications, Experience with various quality system methodologies; 8D, Lean, 5 Why’s, Pareto Analysis, Six Sigma, DFMEA, PFMEA, PPAP, etc. preferred.
- ASQ CQE and/or CQA preferred; ISO Auditor designation an asset; CET or P. Eng an asset; valid driver’s license in good standing.
- Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office applications (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Project); EPR systems and/or Microsoft F&O; CAD software an asset
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, work well with diverse groups of people at all levels and be able to function independently of direct supervision, strong problem solving and organizational skills. Accurate technical report writing skills, Mechanical Aptitude a must, Knowledge of Lean tools and principles, knowledge of product testing requirements, product development cycle, and special processes (Welding, Painting, Adhesion)
- Speaks English Fluently; Able to speak Mandarin and/or Spanish an asset
- Must hold current passport and have the ability to travel abroad
- Responsible for Canada, US, Europe, China, Mexico and facilities abroad
