Due to continued growth and an expanding project portfolio, we are seeking an experienced Civil Construction Surveyor to join our team in Penticton, BC.
Position Overview
The Civil Construction Surveyor plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and success of our projects. Working closely with Project Managers, Site Superintendents, and field crews, you will be responsible for construction layout, survey control, machine control support, and as-built data collection across a variety of civil infrastructure and subdivision projects.
The ideal candidate is experienced in civil construction surveying, proficient with GPS and Total Station equipment, and comfortable working independently in a dynamic field environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform construction layout, grade staking, and topographic surveys using GPS, Total Station, levels, and related survey equipment.
- Establish, verify, and maintain survey control networks, benchmarks, and monitoring points.
- Complete grade checks, quantity calculations, and earthwork volume measurements.
- Prepare, manage, and process survey data, drawings, and digital terrain models using AutoCAD Civil 3D and related software.
- Create, update, and verify machine control files and support field crews with machine guidance systems.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, and design models to ensure accurate implementation in the field.
- Communicate survey information and layout requirements effectively with site personnel and project management.
- Troubleshoot survey equipment, machine control systems, and field data issues as required.
- Conduct as-built surveys and prepare project closeout documentation.
- Maintain accurate survey records, field notes, and daily reports.
- Ensure all survey equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and operating effectively.
- Identify and communicate design discrepancies, conflicts, or site issues that may impact project execution.
- Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of civil construction surveying experience, preferably in roadworks, underground utilities, subdivisions, or site development.
- Proficiency with GPS and Total Station survey equipment.
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and machine control systems (Trimble experience is considered an asset).
- Strong understanding of civil construction drawings, grading, elevations, and construction tolerances.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with project teams.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with reliable transportation.
- Willingness to travel to project sites throughout the Interior of British Columbia and work extended hours when required.
- Safety certifications such as Occupational First Aid, CSTS, Ground Disturbance, or equivalent are considered assets.
