Your Opportunity
One Permanent Full Time Position
Capital Power is seeking a Senior Lead, Trade Operations to join our Supply & Trading team.
This is a high-impact, front office - facing role at the intersection of trading, commercial strategy, and execution. As Capital Power continues to expand its North American trading platform, this role will play a critical part in enabling new opportunities by ensuring transactions can move from concept to execution efficiently, with the right structures, controls, and systems in place.
Working closely with traders and originators, you will own execution readiness across the trading lifecycle, anticipating challenges early, aligning stakeholders, and enabling the business to move quickly and confidently on new commercial opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Own execution readiness across the end-to-end trading lifecycle, ensuring new deals, products, and strategies can be executed efficiently and at scale
- Act as the front office lead for strategic initiatives, translating commercial priorities into actionable workflows, controls, and system requirements
- Shape and enable new products and market opportunities, including product setup, counterparty onboarding, and operational readiness
- Drive alignment across Credit, Risk, Legal, Finance, Technology, and Operations to remove constraints and accelerate execution
- Lead complex, cross-functional initiatives from concept through implementation and post-go-live optimization
- Develop and implement business cases, product definitions, and risk/operational frameworks that support commercial growth
- Represent Trading Desk priorities in cross-functional forums and influence decision-making at senior levels
- Identify structural, process, and system gaps and proactively design scalable solutions that enhance trading performance
- Partner closely with traders and originators to bring new opportunities to market and improve speed to execution
- Provide executive-level insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making
What you will bring to the role:
Education and Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in energy or commodity trading, commercial operations, market risk, or a closely related trading environment
- Post-secondary education in business, economics, finance, risk management, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered
- Professional designation (e.g., CFA, FRM, PRM, ERP) is an asset
- Deep understanding of the trading deal lifecycle, including how transactions move from commercial concept through execution
- Proven experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives and influencing senior stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to operate with high autonomy, ownership, and commercial judgment
Technical Skills:
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance risk, control, and business objectives
- Advanced proficiency in ETRM systems (preferably Allegro) and strong Excel capabilities
- Experience working with trading data, system integration, and process design; exposure to SQL, APIs, or Python is an asset
- Exceptional problem-solving and structuring skills, with the ability to create clarity in ambiguous environments
- Highly effective communicator with strong influencing and stakeholder management capabilities
- Ability to anticipate issues, challenge assumptions, and drive decisions forward
Working Conditions:
- This is a Calgary, in office-based role
- Candidates must be legally eligible to work in Canada
- The successful candidate will undergo education verification, reference checks, and a criminal and credit record check
