JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPht) works in the dispensary dedicated to retirement home services. This role involves daily and weekly dispensing of multidose strip packs, narcotic cards, and other medications and supplies, as well as on-site visits for compliance audits, narcotic destruction, staff training, and client relationship management.
CLIENT & SITE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as primary liaison between all client retirement homes and the pharmacy
- Work with the pharmacist to communicate and implement policies and procedures at client facilities
- Deliver and coordinate training for client’s registered staff on internal and external pharmacy policies and procedures
- Bring client issues to the internal Dominion team to investigate and develop solutions
New Home Conversions
- Coordinate directly with management and pharmacy staff to establish conversion start dates
- Scan all patient profiles and information from the home; contact the previous pharmacy via formal letter
- Contact physicians and arrange introductory meetings on behalf of Dominion Pharmacy
- Train client staff on Dominion medication procedures prior to conversion date
- Pre-conversion: verify all medication orders against MARs and prepare orders for delivery
- On conversion day: remove previous pharmacy medications, replace with Dominion medications, verify eMARs, and support all staff throughout administration
- Participate in semi-annual compliance audits with the pharmacist for all client homes
- Support updates to training presentations and manuals as required
PACKAGING / PACMED RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain eMAR (PointClickCare, Yardi, Med-e-Care)
- Check STS trays during PacMed production runs
- Validate and correct PacVision packaging screen; verify narcotic and PRN blisters against MARs
- Set up all new packaging patients in the dispensary computer system
- Process daily changes per packaging and PacMed change protocols
- Order packaging supplies for PacMed operations
- Update eMARs with all new and changed orders
- Coordinate quarterly and annual medication reviews for all compliance package patients per OCP standards
GENERAL DISPENSARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform and reconcile narcotic counts every 3–6 months
- Maintain the dispensary calendar of events on a monthly basis
- Act within the full scope of the Registered Pharmacy Technician role:
Scope of Practice Includes:
- Check refill prescriptions and perform technical checks
- Take doctor’s prescription orders over the phone
- Liaise with McKesson, Kroll and Dominion Pharmacy IT to troubleshoot dispensary-related IT issues
- Ensure staff understand their roles and have the tools required to carry out their duties effectively
- Implement dispensary policies and procedures for pharmacy support staff
- Maintain allocated dispensary section: dusting, checking for expired medications, orderly work environment
- Comply with the company’s Confidentiality Agreement
TEAMWORK
- Act as backup for Pharmacy Assistant roles when necessary and as time permits
- Assist with answering telephone calls
- Oversee pharmacy assistant and pharmacy technician students
- Ensure a positive, efficient, and productive workflow in the dispensary
- Perform all other responsibilities as required by management
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPht) accreditation with OCP in good standing
- 5+ years’ experience in a busy pharmacy setting, ideally in LTC or retirement home services
- Exceptional proficiency with Kroll pharmacy software (required) and paperless workflow (asset)
- Experience with PointClickCare, Med-e-Care and/or Yardi an asset
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Must maintain current continuing education requirements per OCP standards
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Strong listening, empathy, and problem-solving abilities
- High attention to detail with ability to multitask under pressure
- Collaborative team player with a positive and professional attitude

Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
