Position Summary
The successful candidate will join the Benefits and Pension team responsible for enrolment, changes and termination of benefit and pension plans for approximately 11,000 eligible Division staff. The Benefits and Pension Clerk assists the Supervisor, Benefits and Pension, with the coordination of bi-weekly and monthly operations within the pension and benefits unit.
Job Duties/Responsibilities

process benefit enrolment, changes and terminations, applying eligibility rules
-
communicating with staff about benefit coverage and restrictions, claim reimbursement processes, late applicant penalties and coverage and benefit costs
-
monitoring changes to eligibility due to age, FTE changes and employee status
-
monitoring and reconciling teacher benefits and pension related to teacher maternity leaves
-
reviewing ASEBP billings and comparing details to PeopleSoft system
-
auditing ASEBP reports to determine discrepancies each pay period
-
participating in one-on-one meetings with new employees for enrolment and benefit selection as well as employees making changes or applying for retirement
-
calculating and reconciling Health Spending Account payments for all staff groups
-
monitoring employees on sick leave pending employee disability benefits approval
-
calculating paid leave time available to employees and updating ASEBP with new information and dates as the leave progresses
-
monitoring employees on WCB and providing information to the Ability Assistants
-
assisting the supervisor with analysis, testing and implementation of system upgrades, updates and new procedures
-
performing manual calculations for mid-term pay terminations and enrolments
-
calculating hours worked for permanent staff to determine their eligibility for pension
-
analyzing turnaround reports in the LAPP employer portal and identifying errors and correcting transactions

assisting with the preparation of year end including pay period adjustments, calculating maternity supplement deductions and providing information to Payroll for processing

processing leaves in the ASEBP portal and providing guidance to employees relative to coverage while on leave
Education/Qualifications
-
a diploma in Human Resources program or a related field
-
five years of benefits and pension administration experience
-
Certified Employee Benefit Specialist is desirable
-
two years related experience in a large, complex environment working with various collective agreements
-
knowledge of Human Resources policies, practices and procedures
-
understanding of applicable legislation and collective agreements
-
solid understanding of PeopleSoft HR Management System or other applicable HRMS system
-
advanced Excel skills and strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and Google Apps

strong mathematical, analytical problem solving and data entry skills
-
excellent communication and customer service skills
-
ability to work with tight deadlines
Rate of Pay
$29.44 - $34.42 per hour
