Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. This role is an in‑office position based at our downtown location. Our team is highly collaborative, and much of our work benefits from in‑person co‑creation, relationship‑building, and hands‑on partnership with leaders across the organization.
This role ensures appropriate action is taken on requests with respect to CCTV, Access Control, 3rd Party Alarm Monitoring, Locksmith Services, Executive Support, Special Events and requests for Physical Security Assessments/Audit s. In addition, provides technical knowledge, input as well as program oversight & administration in the areas of CCTV, Access Control, CPTED, and any other security related programs.
What will I be doing?
- Conducting compliance audits and assessments related to Security Programs (i.e. Access Control, CCTV and Security Plan), documenting findings, establishing recommendations for corrective actions, presenting recommendations and assisting in guiding the implementation of follow-up programs.
- Creating, reviewing and updating Corporate Security policies and procedures, in the areas of CCTV, Access Control, & General Security, to improve their quality, efficiency and effectiveness, and to maintain compliance with Corporate Policy and applicable legislative regulations.
- Providing technical expertise in developing and delivering critical Security training programs to meet or exceed current best practices and regulatory standards.
- Leads the implementation of security projects, programs, and modifications to existing systems
- Researches and monitors the implementation of security systems, projects, programs, & policies and modifications to these for legal, regulatory and policy compliance
- Participates as an active project team member on any Metrolinx projects with any CCTV, Access Control or Security implications or involvement and provides recommendations, input and consultation based on technical expertise & where applicable approval i.e. – CCTV plans.
- Coordinates meetings and liaises with government agencies and external stakeholders on topics such as security systems and shared use (CCTV), CPTED and general security envelope of shared facilities
- Analyzes data and trends, and conducts follow-ups regarding incidents
- May liaise with Federal, Provincial and local security authorities & law enforcement agencies to develop and implement safety and security practices and policies
- Builds & fosters relationships with business groups and operating divisions / stakeholders in the areas of Access Control and CCTV and general security.
- Promotes corporate image regarding security, and emergency management initiatives and provides feedback on their effectiveness by developing and leading Security Awareness Program
- Assists in development of strategic plans to improve the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of Corporate Security services in relation to CCTV & Access Control system requests and systems by chairing or co-chairing cross divisional stakeholder committees for continuous improvement in these programs.
- Advises other employees on topics related to the incumbent’s area of expertise, but does not guide employees in their day-to day activities
Develops and participates in delivery of training for, safety, security, and emergency responses, and awareness programs
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Completion of a degree in Security, Law Enforcement, Crime Analysis, or related field – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent
- Demonstrated years of related experience in Security systems or programs, planning and/or operations, ideally in a transportation environment
- Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification or similar certification is an asset
- Experience in an administrator role (or similar) of an Access Control system
- Experience in proficient use of a CCTV system, preferably from an administrator role.
- Oral/written communication skills to review complex documents / drawings for facility changes, builds or additions to provide input prior to submission for work.
- Passing an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) security clearance is required
- Passing Transportation Canada’s Intelligence Branch security clearance is required
- Must successfully complete environmental, security, and any other training required by corporate policy
- Analytical skills to identify and interpret data trends in support of security systems development of best practices
- Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation communication skills to develop and deliver training, prepare security plans, reports and procedures and manage stakeholder relationships
Proficiency in MS Office (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and statistical applications
