POSITION TITLE: HR Generalist
DEPARTMENT: Human Resources
SUPERVISOR: HR Advisor
TERMS: Full-Time, Permanent

Purpose of Position:
The HR Generalists represents the human resources department of TteS. This individual is involved in different aspects of the HR department, including the orientation and onboarding of new hires, training employees about the company vision, mission, policies, and procedures, and providing support to all the employees of that company.
In addition, an HR Generalist is expected to be well-versed in the laws and regulations related to the hiring and firing of employees since this is essential for a representative of the human resources department. This knowledge helps ensure the company follows the legal rules of employment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Recruitment
- Prepare and process job postings, as needed.
- Advertise and post job vacancies to various channels, includes updating TteS website.
- Pre-screen and review employment applications to evaluate qualifications or eligibility of applicants.
- Co-create interview questions in line with best practices and ensures they follow Human Rights? with hiring supervisors and managers.
- Answer questions regarding examinations, eligibility, wages/salaries, benefits, and other pertinent information.
- Administer typing tests and assessment/tools as directed
- Conduct reference and background checks on all potential new employees, including requesting information from law enforcement officials, previous employers, and other references to determine applicants' employment suitability.
- Inform job applicants of their acceptance or rejection of employment.
- Work with hiring managers on creating offer letters for successful applicants, within HR policies and procedures.
- Provide on-boarding and orientation sessions to all new employees.
Performance management / Conflict Resolution / Employee Relations
- Assists with providing resolutions to Manager and Advisor when dealing with employee relation issues.
- Implements tools to strengthen employer-employee relationships.
- Assists with creating, developing, and implementing evaluation tools.
- Assist with the conduct of disciplinary action.
- Assist with processing of terminations and ensures effective exit interviews and provide management with analysis and recommendations.
Compensation and Benefits
- Answers employee questions and administers TteS benefits program.
- Ensures that all newly created positions, whether outside or internally funded, adhere to the current salary grid in use at TteS.
- Participate in and provide support to the Job Evaluation Committee with respect to the design and evaluation of positions.
Training and Development/Succession Planning
- Coordinates general training sessions and development courses, and maintain training records, as directed by the Advisor or Manager
- Completes research on various human resources facets and training as required.
- Follows up with managers/supervisors on probationary evaluations for all employees prior to the 90 day mark.
Internal Relations
- Establish effective working relationships with TteS employees and leadership.
- Participate in internal TteS meetings and events as required.
Industrial and External Relations
- Builds and maintains beneficial relationships with employment agencies, educational institutions and other “pipeline” recruitment sources.
- Develops and maintains relationship with benefits providers.
- Plan, organize and attend recruitment fairs as requested.
Workplace Culture
- Assists with the strategic goals to implement a positive organization culture.
- Ensures the Secwepemc language, culture and history are reflected in aspects and functions of the department.
Policy
- Provides advice, assistance and follow-up on company policies, procedures, and documentation.
- Educate both current and prospective employees on company policies regarding job duties, working conditions, safety, wages, career advancement opportunities, employee benefits and recreation programs.
- Recommends operating policy and procedural improvements, and assisting with the development of policies.
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the TteS policies, standards, and procedures.
- Maintains 100% confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of the TteS, TteS employees and departmental initiatives.
Records Management
- Processes, verifies and registers documentation relating to personnel activities such as; employee relations, staffing, recruitment, job search research and training, health & safety, performance evaluations, job classifications and organizational structure.
- Prepares and maintains, job documentation, and job evaluation systems.
- Maintains human resource data bases, Human Resources Information System (HRIS), computer software systems, and manual filing systems, including the organizational charts.
- Completes all electronic and paper filing for the HR department.
- Keeps current and complete information regarding each employee and contractor in their file.
- Ensures document processing and signatures are complete as necessary.
- Examine employee files to answer inquiries and provide information for personnel actions.
- Gather personnel records from other departments and/or employees.
- Keeps job descriptions current.
Health and Safety/Wellness in the workplace
- Works with Events Coordinator to support staff events and recreational activities.
- Support the initiatives that ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation.
Overall operations
- Plans, organizes, coordinates and completes the daily human resources functions to ensure an effective and efficient human resources department within TteS.
- Administer employee lay-offs and transfers
- Receives and responds to verbal and written enquiries from staff, band members and general public.
- Contributes to a variety of team projects intended to improve process, ideas and results.
- Completes HR Quarterly Reports.
- Completes travel documents as directed.
- Type forms, letters, reports, and memos as necessary.
- Eliminate unnecessary or outdated materials, destroying them or transferring them to inactive storage according to file maintenance / legal guidelines with prior approval from Manager or Advisor.
- Other appropriate duties within reason, that are discussed and agreed upon.
- Cross trains with HR Advisor and Health and Safety Advisor to be able to provide support if incumbent(s) are on a LOA, or utilizing their vacation or sick days.
Supervision or Training Duties:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities majority of the time, but may assist in giving direction and work tasks to summer students.
Professional Certification, Education and Experience:
- Post-secondary degree or technical diploma in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or relevant field and have 1-year related experience.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Must have demonstrated experience working cooperatively in a First Nation’s work environment.
- Must have previous experience working with Human Resources Information Systems, (HRIS).
- CHRP designation is an asset.
- Must pass a criminal record check.
- An understanding of legislation and regulations regarding human resources, both federally and provincially.
- Experience/training in keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheet, the Internet, databases and other standard computer applications
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Microsoft Outlook.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Advanced filing skills.
- Basic Knowledge of the recruitment/hiring process.
- Proven ability to execute advanced office procedures and practices.
- Ability to take initiative.
- Strong tact and diplomacy.
- Must have strong teamwork and cooperation, service orientation and problem solving and judgement skills.
- Ability to work in multi-cultural settings.

HOURS OF WORK: Normal Day shifts – 7 hours. Non-normal shifts may be required.
PAY GRADE: Starting at $25.98 - $31.41 / hour depending on education & experience
