Role Overview
DEI’s goal is to hire a mechanical designer/technician who has graduated or is nearing graduation from an accredited mechanical engineering program or a mechanical technology program and looking to begin their career in the building services consulting industry. This position is for a current vacancy.
Responsibilities
- Assist senior staff to develop mechanical systems designs for a variety of projects, including but not limited to HVAC, hydronic heating, plumbing and drainage, and fire protection.
- Coordination of mechanical elements with various disciplines, i.e. mechanical equipment, coordination of mechanical elements, etc.
- Performing and completing design calculations as required for various systems including mechanical heat / loss calculations, pipe sizing, etc.
- Be responsible for drafting (AutoCAD) or modeling (Revit) mechanical systems for projects under the supervision of senior staff.
- Be responsible for plotting and presentation of design drawings.
- Be responsible for design document updates and reissuance of drawings and sketches to assist senior staff for issuing site instructions, change notices and addenda throughout the construction portion of a project.
- Gain experience, understanding, and knowledge of mechanical systems design, applicable Codes, and other standards.
Qualifications
- University degree or diploma from an accredited university engineering program or a college level mechanical, architectural, or building-focused technology program.
- Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadline and deliverable dates while working on a number of ongoing projects.
- Experience with AutoCAD and standard computer software.
- Experience with Revit, database knowledge, and Python and/or Visual Programming languages are an asset.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, ASHRAE, NFPA, and other applicable codes.
- High levels of attention to detail, retention of design approaches, and ability to draw on past experiences and apply to current situations.
- Ability to think both critically and analytically while applying problem solving and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with standard computer software such as the Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, One Note).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work effectively in a team environment
- Highly detail oriented and able to conduct self-checks on drafting presentation and company standards for produced work prior to supervisor review.
- Prior co-op / job experience at an engineering consulting firm is considered an asset.

Pay: $25.00-$29.00 per hour
