As the Lead Training Officer for Special Projects, you will provide critical subject-matter expertise on Transit operations including the practical training requirements of front-line personnel for new or complex initiatives such as Battery Electric Bus adoptions and Greenline operations. Primary duties include:

Lead the development or updating of operating rulebooks, policies, and standard operating procedures including emergency response protocols.
Operate and assess vehicles for Factory Acceptance Tests, Site Acceptance Test, and System Integration Tests to ensure the technology performs as intended in a real-world environment.
Participate in train-the-trainer activities delivered by vendors and project teams.
Oversee the development of new curriculum including classroom training, on-board training, online instruction, and/or hands-on practical, simulator experience for new projects and initiatives.
Establish performance measures for Trainer and Trainee evaluations purposes for new projects and initiatives.
Create training schedules that consider forecasts, priorities, and availability of operational staff and budget.
Act as the point of contract for external vendors, contractors, and clients.
Compile training related forecasts and requirements, meet with Calgary Transit (CT) and other business unit staff to identify anticipated training needs and schedule maintenance for CT assets and consider the needs for various training.
Develop procedures and provide input on the commissioning of new vehicles.
Retain proficiency on existing vehicles, equipment, and machinery through regular use and training including re-certification.

Qualifications

A completed 1-year certificate in adult education or a related field and at least 4 years of experience that includes training and leading teams.
Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
The successful applicant must have excellent knowledge of transit operations and procedures.
A strong technical knowledge of light rail vehicles.
Experience and competence with developing effective presentations, facilitating within a classroom setting, and establishing and building strong working relationships.
A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than three demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
The successful applicant must have the ability to meet and maintain medical requirements for LRT operations (equivalent to a Class 2 Licence Medical).
Ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
The ability to work with employees at all levels, effective communication skills, use of good judgement when making decisions and solving problems, negotiating and influencing skills, planning and time management skills, presentation skills, and the ability to encourage and motivate people.

Working Conditions: Works around dangerous vehicles, machinery, and equipment on the LRT right-of-way. Occasionally you will perform light physical duties in all types of weather such as throwing stiches, walking the LRT right-of-way, and boarding or exiting the train at locations other than platforms.

Pre-employment Requirements

A security clearance will be conducted.
Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
