The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. Position summary
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (The Institute) is one of Canada’s leading biomedical and health care research centres. We are seeking a Human Resources Advisor to join a committed HR team within a dynamic and stimulating scientific environment.
Your role
As a trusted partner, you support researchers and managers in the day-to-day management of their teams. Your support spans the full HR spectrum: from employee relations to complex situations, as well as performance management and disciplinary matters.
You actively contribute to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of HR programs and processes grounded in the operational realities of The Institute — with both a strategic and hands-on impact.
General Duties
Reporting to the HR Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for the following:
- Strategic advisory and partnership
Provide guidance and coaching to researchers and managers across the full HR spectrum: employee relations, performance management, talent acquisition, compensation and benefits, disability and leave management, retention, change management, and legal compliance.
- Employee relations and performance
Support managers in navigating complex workplace situations and implementing meaningful improvement measures for underperforming employees, support managers in developing and implementing professional development plans, foster a culture of high performance and continuous growth.
Guide researchers, employees, and trainees through all work and study permit processes and requirements.
- Leave and return-to-work management
Manage disability, workplace injury, and personal leave files, advise managers on return-to-work strategies and best practices.
- HR development and training
Design, coordinate, and deliver HR training sessions and presentations for the Institute community, contribute to the development and rollout of HR programs and projects, including process automation initiatives.
- Compensation and internal mobility
Support managers through role changes and internal mobility process, provide informed salary recommendations for new hires and internal positioning, aligned with market benchmarks.
Drive the evolution of HR practices by updating and creating procedures, handbooks, and training materials in collaboration with the HR Operations and Compensation Specialist, maintain active awareness of HR market trends and best practices.

Education / Experience
Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
Experience: Five (5) years of relevant HR experience, including a minimum of three (3) years in a role with significant labour relations responsibilities.
Professional designation: CPHR designation is required.

- Diplomacy, discretion, and sound judgment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
An advanced knowledge of oral and written English is required, as the position requires regular and complex contact with researchers or international students who are exclusively proficient in English.
Additional information
Status : Full time (35 hours/week from Monday to Friday)
Pay Scale: between $50,960 and $94,658 annually, commensurate with education and experience
Work Shift: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm
Work Site: Hybrid
two days on-site per week (Tuesday fixed + one day of the employee's choosing) at 2155 Guy Street, and at the Glen site, Montreal
