Lu’ma Native BCH Housing Society is seeking to fill the position of Housekeeper on a Casual On/Call basis at our newly remodelled Aboriginal Patients' Lodge, located in Vancouver. Casual/On Call shifts are scheduled to best support operations and during high turnover of suites for our guests. With the position being Casual/On Call and there is no guarantee of the number of shifts the Casual/On Call Housekeeper will be called for.
Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Lodge Coordinator or designate, the Housekeeper will be responsible for the general housekeeping duties of short-term rental units for medical patients and families staying at the Aboriginal Patients' Lodge. This position requires a strong commitment to cleanliness for the patients who stay in our suites.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with our guests: patients and family members while maintaining respectful open communication;
- Familiarize new patients and their family members and/or guests with the various program facilities including the physical environments and guidelines for living communally and work to facilitate positive relationships between patients and guests;
- Work as a member of the Lodge Housekeeping team to ensure standards of cleanliness;
- Conduct housekeeping duties including, but not limited to removal of refuse, recycling, dusting and cleaning furnishings and fixtures, disinfecting common touch points, cleaning and disinfecting kitchens and bathrooms, cleaning windows and window sills, baseboards, vacuuming and mopping of floors, wiping down walls, making beds, replenishing supplies in guest suites, and maintaining the cleanliness of the Amenity Room furnishings and kitchen;
- Complete regular cleaning of suites as outlined in the Routine Room Clean Checklist;
- Complete a turn-over of suites when there is a scheduled check-out as per the Check-Out Checklist;
- Respond to Guest needs and requests to provide a great hospitality experience;
- Familiarize guests with features of the Lodge, their Suite and appliances on occasion;
- Maintain cleaning supplies and equipment and ensure proper storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials, in compliance with WHMIS and OHS requirements;
- Maintain respectful, positive communication and healthy working relationships with co-workers and guests;
- Report any maintenance or other building issues or safety concerns to the Lodge Coordinator, or designate;
- Provide First Aid and CPR measures when an injury or health emergency occurs with a patient, guest or staff;
- Deescalate conflicts or crises when they arise;
- Permit entry to only those people approved to have access to enter the building;
- Respond to building emergencies.

Qualifications
- A certificate in a related subject and/or relevant skill-based training;
- Minimum one year experience working as a Housekeeper, preferably supporting the Indigenous community;
- Occupational First Aid Level 1 (or equivalent), WHMIS and Naloxone certificates are required;
- Physically able to complete housekeeping duties including lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs, walking up and down stairs, bending down and reaching up during the entirety of the 7 hour shift;
- Knowledge of Indigenous Cultural Safety practices and trauma informed communication;
- Demonstrated ability to be thorough and organized and carry out work with independently as needed;
- Ability to work effectively with co-workers and guests, demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills, including being non-judgmental in trying situations;
- Ability to work on your feet and manage stress if it is arises.

Hours and Remuneration:
- Casual/On Call position, Mondays to Fridays, 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Shift is 8 hours per day with a 1-hour unpaid meal break;
- Wage $31.56 per hour plus 16% in lieu of Statutory and Lu’ma Paid holidays, Vacation, Benefits, and RRSP. Sick leave is awarded on a pro rata basis. Wage inclusive of in lieu amount is $36.61 per hour. Unionized position.
