Wayfair Sponsored Display (WSD) and Wayfair Sponsored Shops (WSS) are native pay-per-click advertising programs available across Wayfair US, Wayfair CA and Wayfair Professional that empower suppliers to boost the exposure of their products through targeted, high-performing display ad experiences.
The Display and Sponsored Shops Engineering team is responsible for presenting Wayfair Sponsored Display, Wayfair Sponsored Shops and Video Ads across Wayfair’s storefront web and mobile application, utilizing marketing campaigns provided by Wayfair suppliers.Our work spans the full ad-delivery lifecycle: evaluating eligible products based on context, running an auction process to determine an optimal ad delivery for given placement, while ensuring a seamless and exceptional customer experience.
We build and operate these capabilities using a modern technology stack on the Google Cloud Platform, including GraphQL, Apollo Federation, React and Java-based microservices deployed on GKE using the Spring Boot framework. We're also expanding our presence across additional storefronts and Wayfair brands.
We are looking for outstanding candidates for the role of Software Development Manager. The ideal candidate has led teams that solve complex and broad business problems with simple and straightforward, scalable, and performant solutions, applying appropriate technologies and software engineering best practices. You will also have a focus on the customer experience, great teamwork and communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment.
You will lead an Agile team at our development center in Toronto, Canada that drives the business, technology, and operations of the Display Footprint team along with Decisioning and Auction Systems. This system is responsible for choosing the right ads to show to the right audience based on the placements in Storefront. You will oversee all stages of the process, from conceptualization and business analysis to technical design and software development, utilizing a range of technologies.

What You’ll Do:
Manage and lead a team of 9 engineers to develop services that support our Display Footprint team along with Decisioning and Auction Systems.
Own the output of the team both from a technical and performance perspective.
Mentor engineers in the team through training, coaching, code reviews, and 1:1 mentorship providing career and professional development for your staff.
Accountable for the systems built by your team including technical design, development, test, monitoring, and deployment.
Engage your team to construct the technical roadmap and lead planning, delivery and continuous improvement.
Partner with product on defining roadmaps and ensure the team has a compelling mission with well defined KPIs to measure progress and success.
Raise the bar from both a technical and process perspective.
We Are a Match Because You Have:
10+ years of experience in software engineering, with expertise in designing and building scalable platforms.
5+ years of experience managing a team of high caliber Software Engineers developing complex, world class, scalable software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
Experience with Cloud Native architecture platforms like Google Cloud, AWS, or Azure.
Experience in backend software engineering using object oriented language
Experience working with relational and non-relational databases
Experience working with event-driven architectures, DDD, and TDD
Experience partnering with product or program management team
Experience partnering with cross-functional engineering and science teams
Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and live site operations
Experience in leading the definition and development of multi tier web services
Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective product software engineers
Experience analyzing business and operational metrics.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Computer Science degree or postgraduate study. In lieu of a degree, relevant skills and equivalent experience.

Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
Experience in the digital advertising or marketing space
Familiarity with the technical aspects of digital / display advertising
