Job Summary
The Designer is responsible for producing accurate 3D models, 2D drawings, and documentation to support manufacturing and project execution. This role interprets contract drawings and specifications, prepares approval and shop drawings, and collaborates closely with Engineering and Project teams to ensure design intent, quality standards, and customer requirements are met.
Job Requirements
- Read and interpret contract documents, specifications, structural drawings, and customer requirements.
- Create accurate 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
- Prepare approval drawings, shop drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).
- Collaborate with Design Engineers and internal stakeholders to ensure design intent, manufacturability, and project requirements are maintained.
- Apply established drafting standards, design procedures, and best practices.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards, codes, regulatory requirements, and internal specifications.
- Review drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, and conformity prior to release.
- Revise drawings and documentation based on internal reviews, customer feedback, and project changes.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date design files, drawings, and project documentation.
- Support production and project teams by responding to design-related questions, revisions, and clarifications.
- Coordinate with fabrication and production teams to support manufacturing requirements and project timelines.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a college, CEGEP, vocational, or technical program in Design, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field; a university degree in Engineering or a related discipline is considered an asset.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling and 2D engineering drawings.
- 2+ years of experience in a design or drafting role, preferably within structural steel, fabrication, or manufacturing environments.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, contract drawings, and technical specifications.
- Solid understanding of drafting standards, design procedures, and industry best practices.
- Experience preparing approval drawings, shop drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Experience with AutoCAD considered an asset.
- SolidWorks Professional Certification (CSWP) considered an asset.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and quality of work.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
