Purpose:
The Pharmacy Assistant Cleanroom supports safe, accurate, and efficient pharmacy operations through staging, preparation, sterile and non-sterile compounding support activities, inventory coordination, cleanroom support, and documentation activities. This role performs delegated technical tasks under the supervision and direction of the Designated Pharmacy Manager, Pharmacist, and/or Registered Pharmacy Technician in accordance with Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) requirements, NAPRA standards, company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and quality assurance requirements. The Pharmacy Assistant may participate in delegated compounding activities only after successful completion of required training, competency assessments, and authorization by pharmacy management.

Job Responsibilities:
- Perform delegated sterile and non-sterile compounding support activities under supervision and in accordance with approved SOPs, training, and competency requirements.
- Stage, gather, disinfect, organize, and prepare medications, ingredients, supplies, and equipment required for compounding activities.
- Aseptically prepare sterile products, IV admixtures, TPNs, specialty preparations, and other compounded products as delegated and authorized.
- Prepare cytotoxic, hazardous, and non-hazardous compounded products in accordance with safety requirements and training.
- Perform calculations, measurements, ingredient preparation, and material assembly required for compounding processes under supervision.
- Assemble, label, package, and organize compounded preparations for pharmacist or Registered Pharmacy Technician final verification.
- Support Pharmacists and Registered Pharmacy Technicians during in-process checks, documentation reviews, and workflow activities.
- Disinfect medications, supplies, and materials using approved sporicidal and disinfecting agents before transfer into controlled environments.
- Transport staged materials, ingredients, and supplies into cleanroom and controlled areas following contamination control procedures.
- Maintain strict adherence to aseptic technique, garbing procedures, infection prevention and control practices, and contamination control standards.
- Operate, clean, sanitize, and maintain compounding equipment, cleanroom equipment, staging areas, biological safety cabinets, laminar airflow workbenches, and related equipment according to SOPs.
- Participate in cleaning and disinfection activities of controlled areas, cleanrooms, pass-throughs, equipment, and staging environments.
- Complete required production records, worksheets, batch records, cleaning logs, temperature logs, and other quality documentation accurately and promptly.
- Assist with inventory management activities including receiving, stocking, expiry monitoring, replenishment, quarantines, and disposal of supplies and medications.
- Support maintenance activities, calibration coordination, and quality assurance activities as delegated.
- Participate in training, competency assessments, mock media fills, gloved fingertip testing, and ongoing aseptic certification requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and organizational information in accordance with privacy legislation and company policies.
- Follow all workplace health and safety policies including PPE requirements, hazardous drug handling procedures, and WHMIS standards.
- Identify and immediately report compounding discrepancies, contamination concerns, equipment malfunctions, incidents, or quality concerns to pharmacy leadership.
- Work collaboratively with Pharmacists, Registered Pharmacy Technicians, and other pharmacy assistants.
- Perform pharmacy operational support activities including order preparation, supply coordination, packaging, filing, scanning, and documentation support.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and support the pharmacy quality management system.
- Understand role limitations and refrain from performing restricted or regulated acts reserved for Pharmacists or Registered Pharmacy Technicians.
- Other duties related to pharmacy staging, cleanroom support, and delegated compounding activities as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Pharmacy Assistant diploma and/or equivalent pharmacy experience required.
- Completion of organization-approved sterile compounding and aseptic technique training required.
- Knowledge of sterile compounding principles, cleanroom procedures, and infection prevention practices.
- Experience working in a sterile compounding, cleanroom, hospital, or specialty pharmacy environment is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to follow SOPs and maintain accurate documentation.
- Strong computer skills and experience using pharmacy software systems considered an asset.
