POSITION TITLE : Cleaner – 81 Wilson Park Program (Full Time – 1 Year Contract)

HOURLY SALARY : $19.57

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Cleaner is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy environment in clients’ units and the common areas across Madison's supportive housing programs within Toronto. This role is integral to Madison’s commitment to infection prevention and control (IPAC), tenant dignity, and housing quality standards, and contributes directly to key performance indicators (KPIs) under Accreditation Canada standards.
While this position reports to the Program Manager, direction and support may also be provided to this position by the management team on matters pertaining to Residential Tenancy Act responsibilities, funding and financing or other related matters.
DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND RELATED TASKS
- Performing general cleaning tasks as outlined, including but not limited to general dusting, bathroom cleaning, kitchen cleaning, vacuuming, sweeping, washing floors, washing / cleaning dishes and empty garbage / recycle.
- Replenishes toiletries and supplies, such as paper towels, tissues, and toilet paper in the bathroom and adhere to a daily or weekly list of tasks specifically designed for the supportive housing.
- Cleaning and disinfecting all surface areas, including high touch points like doorknobs, tables, worktops as per IPAC standards.
- Maintain the laundry supplies labels safely and as per WHIMS standards
- Wash windows, mirrors and glass surfaces and ensure they are free of streaks
- Monitors and orders supplies on bi-weekly basis.
- Organizational skills to keep rooms and storage closets clean and well organized
- Packing away groceries and handling other deliveries
- Monitors and promotes practices that support one’s own health and safety.
- Comply with Madison’s policies, standards, guidelines and procedures.
- Must be willing to travel within Toronto.
- Work safely and report any work safety concerns to management.
- Follow Madison’s policies with respect to infection control and pest control.
- Report housing needs and repairs to management for follow up.
- Maintain a record of client feedback, concerns and report to management.
- Document property related issues like maintenance or needs and inform management.
- Maintain a communication log to inform colleagues of any issues or trends.
- Other related duties as required.
- Ensure safe storage of cleaning supplies and equipment and avoid endangering lives of clients, staff and partners
- Be on call via cell phone for building staff and clients throughout each shift.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Must process physical ability to perform all cleaning tasks.
- Personal Support Worker Certificate or a college diploma in a related field or a combination of education/experience.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a cleaner and experience in working directly with clients dealing with substance use and mental health issues would be an asset.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to lift up to a maximum of 40 lbs. alone
- Adaptability and flexibility to focus on whatever task is most important at any given time
- Ability to complete physically demanding tasks
- Integrity, reliability, and trustworthiness to be left to work independently
- Capable of following instructions and learn new techniques
- Strong time management skills in order to ensure all work is completed by the end of shift
- Demonstrate an understanding of standard cleaning supplies and equipment
- Self-starter who takes the initiative to determine and complete necessary tasks, even with minimal supervision
- Positive attitude and ability to work as part of a team
- Must be physically capable of performing 8 hours of physical work each day
- Attention to detail.
- Life Skills Certification an Asset.
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Police clearance certificate.
The job has physical demands like;
- Bending or twisting the body, standing for long periods of time
- Making repetitive motions
- Handling material and chemicals manually
- Walking and carrying items including laundry using the stairs
- Deal with a variety of residents who may be resistive and have Responsive Behaviors.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS / QUALITY KPIs:
- 100% completion of daily/weekly/monthly cleaning checklists.
- Zero critical safety or IPAC-related incidents per quarter.
- Client satisfaction with cleanliness ≥ 85% based on surveys.
- Timely reporting (within 24 hours) of maintenance or repair issues.
- Full compliance with WHMIS and IPAC training within onboarding period.
- Demonstrates continuous participation in CQI activities annually.
WORKPLACE ENVIRONMENT
81 Wilson Park program operates in a high-support housing environment. Staff should expect exposure to second hand smoke, substance use, and varied client behaviors related to mental health and/or developmental challenges.
HOURS OF WORK
- Monday to Friday (subject to operational needs) from 8.00am to 4.00pm
- Ability to work in high-demand, crisis-responsive environments is essential
- Travel between Madison program sites and community locations may occasionally be required
Staff may be required to support emergency responses and critical incidents outside regular duties Madison Community Services reserves the right to modify job duties and responsibilities based on operational requirements.
