General Labourer / Material Handler
Location: Acton, ON
Pay: $22.26/hour
Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM (initial training on days)
Shift Note: After approximately 1 month of training on days, this role will transition to night shifts and move into a continental-style rotation. Shifts may rotate on a monthly basis based on production needs.

Express Employment Professionals Guelph is recruiting on behalf of a large, established industrial client in Acton, ON for a General Labourer / Material Handler. This is a high-intensity, physically demanding role within a galvanizing plant, requiring repetitive use of hands, arms, and full body movement throughout the shift. The role offers long hours, overtime potential, and strong opportunity for permanent employment for the right candidates.
The role involves working both indoors and outdoors, supporting plant operations by moving and preparing steel materials for processing.(MUST have metatarsal-grade steel toe boots, mandatory – no exceptions)
Shift Structure
- Initial Training: Day shift (7:00 AM – 5:00 PM) for approximately 1 month
- After training: transition to night shifts within a continental-style rotation
- Ongoing rotation between shifts may be required on a monthly basis
Key Responsibilities
- Load and move steel materials throughout the galvanizing plant
- Prepare and rack steel products for processing
- Use industrial tools such as grinders, bolt cutters, and steel benders
- Perform outdoor work loading materials prior to processing
- Maintain organization of materials and assist with general labour duties
- Ensure a clean, safe, and efficient work environment
- Support overall plant operations in a fast-paced, high-demand industrial setting
Requirements
- MUST have metatarsal-grade steel toe boots (mandatory – no exceptions)
- Previous experience in general labour, manufacturing, or industrial environments preferred
- Experience in steel, construction, or heavy industrial settings considered an asset
- Strong work ethic and ability to work independently and take direction
- Self-motivated and adaptable to changing daily tasks
- Safety-conscious with the ability to follow procedures
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment with repetitive physical tasks
Physical & Work Environment
- Frequent lifting of materials up to 50 lbs
- Continuous, repetitive use of hands, arms, and full body
- Continuous standing, walking, bending, twisting, and manual labour
- Work performed in hot, dirty, and outdoor conditions
- Exposure to changing weather and industrial plant environments
Equipment & Tools
- Overhead cranes (used by team for steel positioning)
- Industrial tools including grinders, bolt cutters, and steel benders
- Material handling systems for organizing steel
Additional Requirements
- Must have a reliable vehicle – location is not bus accessible
Compensation & Benefits
- $22.26/hour with opportunity for overtime
