About Us
At Artemis Huron, previously Huron Women’s Shelter, we use a gender-based analysis (GBA+), trauma and violence informed framework to deliver prevention, education, crisis support and healing programs to women and their families who have been impacted by gender-based violence (GBV) in rural Huron County. Our services include a 24-hour helpline and emergency shelter, risk assessment and safety planning, advocacy, system navigation, individual and group healing opportunities, and community development.
We are seeking a Transition Outreach Advocate to join our team. This role works within our Transition Program located This is a full-time fixed term contract position averaging 35 hours per week, until March 31, 2028.
Job Purpose
Reporting to the GBV Community Coordination Lead, the Transition Outreach Advocate is accountable for providing direct support to women impacted by gender-based violence (GBV) and not residing in our emergency shelter program, who are seeking support navigating complex systems.
Using a gender-based analysis (GBA+) and trauma and violence informed framework, the Transition Outreach Advocate promotes safety, provides advocacy, develops and maintains therapeutic relationships and resources to support a woman and her family navigating systems related to GBV, legal, homelessness, poverty, addiction and/or mental health.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
1. Provides transitional case management services, including conducting risk assessments, developing and documenting safety and transition plans, identifying client needs, prioritizing goals, exploring options, and monitoring and revising progress as required.
2. Facilitates access to supports and services by providing referrals, information, and assistance related to housing, legal, financial, and other community resources, and by administering Legal Aid processes, including assessment, certificate issuance, and support for complex legal matters.
3. Advocates for and supports clients through liaison with community agencies, justice and service partners, attendance at meetings and appointments (including court and medical), and participation in case conferences, risk assessments, and safety planning initiatives as appropriate.
4. Provides education, guidance, and system navigation support, empowering clients in self-advocacy while also offering consultation, resources, and expertise to internal teams and building collaborative relationships with community partners.
5. Maintains accountability and program quality by documenting all services and interactions in accordance with policy, completing reports and reporting incidents of a significant nature, contributing to service improvement and program development, and participating in committees and organizational initiatives.

Location
The Transition Outreach Advocate primarily works within the community, providing outreach, support, and advocacy services to women and their families in a variety of settings, including Second Stage Housing facilities and other community locations.
Hours
The Transition Outreach Advocate works a standard work week (average 35hours/week) and may be required to work variable evening and weekend hours as required to accommodate program needs.
What You Bring to the Role
· Demonstrates a strong feminist, GBA+, and trauma and violence informed analysis, approach, and practice
· Excellent conflict resolution skills; ability to facilitate difficult conversations
· Strong knowledge of community services and the ability to communicate and collaborate with community partners
· Demonstrates women’s advocacy skills, risk assessment, safety planning, case planning skills and effective child/women-centered practice delivery
· Outstanding communications, listening and assessment skills
· Excellent time management skills and ability to self-motivate
· Highly developed interpersonal and problem-solving skills
· Proficiency in use of computer office technology and applications
· Demonstrated organizational and multi-tasking skills
· Ability to make independent decisions based on experience and judgment
· Ability to work independently as well as within a team with minimal supervision
Qualifications
· Undergraduate degree in Social Work, Women’s Studies, or equivalent Social Service Worker Diploma with an equivalent post-secondary education and experience.
· Experience or training in legal system or justice processes.
· Minimum 2 years direct social services provision or counselling experience. Experience specific to gender-based violence and experience obtained in a residential setting are assets.
· Valid driver’s license; access to a reliable vehicle and proof of adequate insurance.
· Clean driver’s abstract; Clear current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC).
· Valid CPR, First Aid (ASIST, CPI an asset).
Fluency in other languages an asset.
