Junior Sous Chef – UMAMI

UMAMI is a brand-new upscale Pan-Asian restaurant looking for a motivated and ambitious Junior Sous Chef to join our opening leadership team. This role is ideal for a strong line cook or emerging leader looking to take the next step in their culinary career.

Working closely with the Head Chef and Sous Chef, the Junior Sous Chef will help execute daily kitchen operations, lead the team during service, and ensure consistency in food quality and kitchen standards. This is a full-time position of approximately 35 hours per week.

Responsibilities

● Support the Head Chef and Sous Chef with daily kitchen operations

● Prepare and oversee menu items according to recipes, presentation, and Head Chefs standards

● Help lead the kitchen team during service and maintain a positive work environment

● Take ownership of closing shifts, ensuring all cleaning, prep, and shutdown procedures are completed to standard

● Maintain high standards of food quality, consistency, cleanliness, and organization

● Assist with prep lists, stocking, and kitchen organization

● Ensure food safety and sanitation standards are consistently followed

● Assist with training and mentoring line cooks

● Work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen

● Support pastry and dessert production when required

Requirements

● Previous experience as a Lead Line Cook, Junior Sous Chef, or similar leadership role

● Strong understanding of kitchen operations and food safety standards

● Experience with pastry or dessert production is considered a strong asset

● Ability to lead by example and communicate effectively with the kitchen team

● Reliable, organized, and able to perform well under pressure

● Passion for quality food, hospitality, and continuous learning
