About Nanak Logistics
Nanak Logistics is a Canadian trucking carrier serving domestic lanes across Canada. We are a small, growing operation, and this is our first dispatch hire — which means the person in this seat will help shape how the job gets done rather than inherit someone else’s system.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Freight Dispatcher on a part-time basis to source and book freight, negotiate with brokers, and keep our trucks moving profitably. The role is on site at our Terra Cotta yard, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
This is a focused, high-impact role. In four hours a day you will decide which loads we take and at what rate, with real ownership of revenue per truck and empty miles. The owner covers afternoons and overflow.
If you know the load boards, know how brokers think, and want serious work without a 50-hour week, this is a good fit. Candidates looking to phase back into the industry, work around family commitments, or add steady part-time income alongside other work are all welcome to apply.
Load Sourcing and Booking
- Monitor Loadlink and other load boards (Truckstop, DAT, direct broker portals) to identify freight matching our equipment, lanes, and capacity
- Negotiate rates, fuel surcharge, accessorials, and terms with brokers and shippers
- Vet brokers before booking — credit rating, payment history, days-to-pay — and escalate anything questionable
- Review and confirm rate confirmations for accuracy before committing a truck
- Build and maintain relationships with brokers and direct shippers to secure repeat, contracted freight and reduce reliance on the spot market
Fleet Planning and Dispatch
- Assign loads to drivers and plan routes to minimize deadhead and maximize revenue per mile
- Pre-plan the next load so trucks are not sitting after delivery
- Balance driver home time, availability, and hours of service against customer appointment windows
- Communicate dispatch instructions clearly: pickup and delivery numbers, appointment times, addresses, and special requirements
In-Transit Management
- Track shipments and provide proactive check-calls and status updates to brokers and customers
- Handle exceptions — breakdowns, weather, road closures, missed appointments, detention, late loads
- Document detention, layover, and TONU and pursue accessorial pay owed to the company
- Hand off open issues clearly at the end of each shift so nothing is dropped
Administration
- Ensure rate confirmations, BOLs, and PODs are collected, accurate, and passed to billing without delay
- Maintain accurate, organized load and driver records, and keep the load board carrier profile current
- Support hours-of-service and ELD compliance, and flag any driver or equipment concerns
- Provide a short weekly summary of loaded miles, empty miles, revenue per truck, and open issues
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of dispatch experience with a trucking carrier or freight brokerage
- Demonstrated experience booking freight on Loadlink or comparable load boards
- Proven rate negotiation skills and comfort holding a price under pressure
- Working knowledge of Canadian hours-of-service rules, ELD requirements, and standard carrier documentation (rate con, BOL, POD)
- Strong geographic knowledge of Canadian lanes, major corridors, and seasonal and weather considerations
- Excellent verbal and written English communication; professional phone manner with brokers and drivers
- Ability to work independently and make booking decisions without day-to-day supervision
- Proficiency with email, spreadsheets, and dispatch or transportation software
Preferred Qualifications
- Established relationships with brokers and shippers on Canadian domestic lanes
- Experience with transportation management software (Rose Rocket, Axon, Tailwind, TruckMate or similar), factoring submissions, or invoicing workflows
- Additional languages an asset for communicating with our driver group and Quebec-lane customers (Punjabi, Hindi, French)
- Familiarity with reefer, flatdeck securement, or specialized freight requirements
What We Offer
- $28.00 to $32.00 per hour, with 4% vacation pay included in payroll
- Consistent hours — Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with no weekend or on-call rotation
- Genuine autonomy — you make the booking calls, not a call centre script
- Direct working relationship with the owner and real influence over how the operation runs
- Potential to grow into expanded hours, full-time, or a Dispatch Manager role as the fleet expands

When you apply, include a short note describing the size of fleet you have dispatched and the lanes you know best.
