The Position:
Digital Shovel is hiring an HR Manager to support our next stage of growth. This is a hands-on role for an experienced HR Generalist or early HR Manager who can improve processes, support managers, and handle employee matters with sound judgement.
The ideal candidate is comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment where priorities may be ambiguous and processes are still evolving. They can understand issues, organize facts, identify risks, and recommend practical solutions while supporting and administering core HR operations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Support day-to-day HR operations across employee relations, documentation, HRIS, benefits, policy administration, recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding
- Act as a first point of contact for employee questions, workplace concerns, leaves of absence, accommodation requests, attendance issues, and related documentation
- Support managers with attendance, performance and conduct management, accommodations, and employee communication
- Manage and administer all WSIB-relation processes, including workplace injury reporting, documentation, follow up, modified work coordination, and return to work communication
- Partner with leadership to administer equitable compensation structures, salary bands, and benefits program frameworks
- Maintain accurate HR records and improve workflows for employee files, contracts, acknowledgements, onboarding, offboarding, role changes, WSIB documentation, accommodation records, and HRIS data
- Draft clear employee communications related to policies and processes, benefits, compliance requirements, and other internal matters
- Track HR activity and provide reporting on recruitment, headcount, turnover, attendance, employee lifecycle activity, and compliance-related matters
- Support compliance with applicable provincial and federal employment standards and legislation, occupational health and safety requirements, and company policies
- Escalate higher-risk matters appropriately while bringing context, options, and recommended next steps
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- Must have a CHRP designation (or in the final stages of achieving one). A CHRL would be an asset
Experience:
- 5 to 7+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably as a HR Generalist, Senior HR Generalist, HR Business Partners, or HR Manager
- Practical experience support HR Compliance in an Ontario workplace, with strong knowledge of Ontario employment standards, WSIB claims and processes
