MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- A university degree is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- One year of directly-related experience in research and data analysis is required.
- Experience extracting and analyzing data from large databases is required.
- Demonstrated proficiency with the current version of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Power BI and with SAS required.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must have superior problem solving and organizational skills, with the ability to manoeuvre in the political arena, and highly developed written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to multi-task and prioritize work.
- Must have a working understanding of how to use Microsoft Power BI.
- Must have highly developed written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience with Predictive analytics and data modeling.
- Ability to prepare graphs, tables and reports to reflect results of analyses required.
- Ability to explain results and point out any differences between primary data and other sources required.
- Ability to organize and manage projects and to work collaboratively with colleagues and clients required.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment is required.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or feedback is required.
- Ability to exercise considerable independence in judgement, tact, diplomacy, and discretion in dealing with confidential matters required.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
- Assist in the development and support of Power Apps and Power BI reports developed by OIA as needed in conjunction with other staff within OIA.
- Creating a document outlining the process involved in performing the analysis, including an outline of the purpose of the analysis or question the work is to answer, all datasets used in preparing the analysis, and a copy of the deliverables.
- Work with experienced analysts in OIA to understand the admission, registration, and graduation data that is contained in the Aurora student data base and in the Operational Data Store (ODS).
- Develop and/or enhance the skills necessary to extract and analyse data, using Excel, SAS, etc. Key to performing the assigned duties is an overview of the cycles and key events in the Aurora system.
- Work with senior staff within OIA and the client to define the question being asked and then identify the data needed to best answer the question and the type of analysis to be performed prior to beginning the work.
- Prepare analyses of data from various data sources that currently exists within OIA, such as Excel data files and Tableau datasets, or from the institution’s databases.
- Work to select data needed for performing new analysis to answer specific questions, in the process verifying accuracy of work and ensuring internal consistency of results.
- Use existing analysis to prepare trend data for review by committee members using software tools like Microsoft Word, Excel, Tableau, PowerPoint,SAS, Power Apps, and PowerBI.
- Seeks out and participates in on-going professional development to keep abreast of methods of institutional research, advances affecting data and analytics, related to this position.
