Relief Livestock Supervisor (Short-Term Contract)
Join the team behind one of Ontario's premier agricultural events! In this hands-on, short-term contract role, you will support the care and well-being of livestock during the Western Fair. Working alongside the Barn Manager, barn team, exhibitors and event staff, you will help ensure animals are well cared for and that livestock areas remain clean, safe, organized and welcoming for exhibitors and visitors.
Contract Dates
- September 10: Barn setup
- September 11–20: Western Fair
- September 21: Teardown
Availability throughout the Fair is required, including mornings, evenings and weekends, as scheduled. Availability for at least one setup or teardown shift is preferred.

What You'll Do
- Feed, water, bed, groom and wash livestock according to breed and exhibitor requirements.
- Clean and sanitize pens, remove manure, and maintain clean, safe and organized livestock areas.
- Monitor animals for signs of illness, injury, stress or distress and report concerns promptly to the Barn Manager.
- Complete daily records related to feeding, cleaning, disinfecting and animal care activities.
- Monitor visitor interactions with livestock and report any animal welfare or public safety concerns.
- Work collaboratively with the Barn Manager, exhibitors and event staff to support daily barn operations.
- Assist with livestock move-in, move-out, setup and teardown as required.
What We're Looking For
- Two to three years of hands-on livestock experience in a farm, exhibition or similar agricultural setting (references required).
- Experience handling a variety of livestock species and breeds, with a strong understanding of animal care, welfare and safe handling practices.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail when monitoring animal health, cleanliness and visitor safety.
- Professional, respectful and calm communication with exhibitors, visitors, staff and volunteers.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
- A positive reputation within the local agricultural community is considered an asset.
Working Conditions
- Comfortable working around livestock, hay, straw, dust, dirt and manure.
- Able to stand, walk, bend, twist and regularly lift between 25 and 50 pounds.
- Able to work outdoors and in barn environments in varying weather conditions.
- Available to work scheduled shifts throughout the Fair, including mornings, evenings and weekends.
