Full job description

We are seeking a reliable and knowledgeable IT Technician to provide day-to-day technical support to dental and medical care clients. This position involves both remote and onsite support, including troubleshooting workstations, maintaining servers, supporting specialized clinical software, managing backups, and completing preventative maintenance.

The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently, communicating professionally with healthcare staff, and travelling to client locations throughout Alberta.

Key Responsibilities

Provide day-to-day IT support to dental and medical offices remotely and onsite.
Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, network, server, printer, scanner, and workstation issues.
Install, configure, support, and upgrade dental, medical, and general business software.
Support practice-management, imaging, digital X-ray, patient-record, and related clinical applications.
Maintain physical and virtual Windows Server 2025 environments.
Monitor server health, storage capacity, system performance, security, and event logs.
Manage onsite and cloud-based server backup systems.
Monitor backup jobs, investigate failures, and regularly verify backup integrity.
Perform server audits to identify security risks, configuration issues, outdated software, and performance concerns.
Complete routine maintenance on servers, desktops, laptops, and network equipment.
Install and configure computers, monitors, printers, scanners, switches, access points, and related equipment.
Manage Microsoft Windows user accounts, permissions, shared folders, Group Policy, Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP.
Support Microsoft 365, Outlook, email accounts, security settings, and user access.
Troubleshoot local-area networks, internet connectivity, Wi-Fi, VPNs, and remote-access systems.
Apply Windows updates, software patches, firmware updates, and security improvements.
Configure antivirus, endpoint protection, firewall, and access-control systems.
Maintain accurate service records, technical documentation, asset information, and client configurations.
Coordinate with software vendors and third-party service providers when advanced support is required.
Protect confidential patient, employee, and business information while working within healthcare environments.
Respond professionally to urgent service requests and minimize disruption to clinical operations.
Travel to client locations throughout Alberta for installations, troubleshooting, maintenance, and emergency support.

Qualifications and Skills

Previous experience providing IT support in a business, dental, medical, or healthcare environment is preferred.
Strong knowledge of Windows desktops and Windows Server environments.
Experience supporting physical servers and virtual machines.
Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file sharing, permissions, and networking.
Experience with onsite and cloud-based backup solutions.
Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, network, printer, scanner, and application issues.
Familiarity with dental or medical practice-management and imaging software is considered an asset.
Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical users.
Ability to work independently, prioritize service requests, and manage multiple client environments.
High level of professionalism, discretion, and respect for confidential information.
Willingness to participate in occasional after-hours or emergency support when required.

Travel Requirements

Regular travel to dental and medical offices throughout Alberta is required.
A valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle are required.
Some assignments may require extended travel, early-morning work, evening work, or overnight stays.

Employment Requirements

Successful completion of a background check may be required.
The technician must follow all client privacy, cybersecurity, infection-control, and workplace safety procedures.
Mileage and approved travel expenses will be handled in accordance with company policy.
