Position Purpose
Citxw Nlaka'pamux Assembly (CNA) was created in 2013 as a powerful and unifying voice for eight Nlaka’pamux Bands regarding the Teck Highland Valley Copper Mine. It is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the eight Participating Bands. Headquartered in Merritt, BC, with a workforce of over 40, CNA provides training and job readiness along with cultural, social, and technical programming to the over 3035 members of the eight Participating Bands.
The ʔesknstwexʷ Logistics Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the logistics of community programs and events, ensuring their successful execution and alignment with cultural values. This position requires close collaboration with various stakeholders, including community members and project teams, to develop and implement detailed logistical plans that facilitate effective participation and engagement. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational skills, effective communication abilities, keen attention to detail, and a strong understanding of culturally significant practices and sustainability initiatives.
Primary Duties
- Coordinate the logistical planning and delivery of community gatherings, workshops, training sessions, cultural celebrations, and other large-scale events for the ʔesknstwexʷ Department and its collaborators,
- Coordinate venue selection, setup and tear-down, catering, transportation, and accommodations for participants and facilitators,
- Develop detailed logistical plans, event schedules, Gantt charts, calendars, and other project-tracking tools to monitor progress and ensure deadlines are met,
- Coordinate stakeholder schedules and availability to support participation and collaboration, adjusting plans as required when changes or challenges arise,
- Work closely with Communications and Engagement, other internal departments, project teams, community members, and external collaborators to plan and deliver events,
- Work with representatives from the eight Participating Bands to plan and implement community initiatives,
- Identify, purchase, and organize required materials, equipment, and supplies, ensuring all resources are available and in working order,
- Develop and maintain inventory-tracking systems to monitor event materials, equipment, and supplies,
- Serve as the primary point of contact for event and program logistics, providing clear and timely information to participants, facilitators, community members, and other stakeholders,
- Prepare and distribute agendas, instructions, schedules, resource lists, and other logistical materials,
- Ensure event activities comply with applicable permits, local regulations, organizational policies, and safety and security requirements,
- Incorporate environmentally sustainable practices into event planning, including waste reduction, recycling, and responsible sourcing,
- Collect and review participant and stakeholder feedback to evaluate event logistics and identify opportunities for improvement,
- Prepare post-event summaries outlining logistical successes, challenges, and lessons learned to support future planning, and
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the ʔesknstwexʷ Co-Lead.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong organizational, administrative, and time-management skills,
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills,
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate with diverse teams and stakeholders,
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, virtual meeting platforms, and project-tracking tools,
- Knowledge of Indigenous heritage, language, and traditional practices is an asset, and
- Willingness to learn, or knowledge of, nłeʔkepmx cultural values, language and protocols while recognizing and respecting cultural diversity.
Experience and Requirements
- Experience in event logistics, community or cultural programming, project coordination, or a related field is an asset,
- Experience in supervision is an asset,
- Flexibility as required for events outside the standard schedule,
- Physically fit for event set-up and tear-down and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and
- Willingness to travel for work with a valid BC driver's license and access to a reliable personal vehicle.
Work Environment
- Schedule: Monday through Friday between 8:30am and 4:30pm, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break, fluctuating when needed. On average, 35 hours per week,
- Overtime: All daily overtime over 8 hours will be banked at 1.5x, all hours over 12 will be banked at 2x,
- Reporting Office Location: Office work will be conducted from the CNA office at 2025 Granite Ave, Merritt BC,
- Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation (10 working days), accrued at 0.84 per month,
- Winter Break: 2 weeks paid (max 10 working days),
- Benefits: 50% benefit premiums paid by employer,
- Pension: Pension matching (percentage increasing with years of service), and
