Role Overview
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Accounting Manager will play a key leadership role in managing the organization’s accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance requirements, internal controls, and process improvement initiatives across multiple business entities.
This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information, strengthening accounting processes, supporting strategic decision-making, improving operational efficiency, and leading the accounting team to achieve reporting and business objectives.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional with strong analytical capabilities, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage daily accounting operations while contributing to long-term financial strategy and organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting, Month-End Close & Business Analysis
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Prepare and review financial statements, journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules across multiple entities.
- Provide financial reporting packages to the CFO and management team by the third week of the following month.
- Analyze financial results, investigate variances, identify trends, and provide meaningful insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial planning activities.
- Develop and monitor financial and operational KPIs to support business performance measurement and decision-making.
- Ensure revenues, expenses, inventory, and balance sheet accounts are recorded accurately in accordance with accounting standards and company policies.
Accounting Operations & Financial Management
- Manage the complete accounting cycle, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, inventory accounting, general ledger, intercompany transactions, and financial reporting.
- Lead Accounts Receivable activities, including aging analysis, collections management, customer trend analysis, credit reviews, customer deductions, and account reconciliations.
- Review customer credit limits based on payment history, financial performance, and risk assessment.
- Analyze AR performance and provide recommendations to improve collections, cash flow, and working capital management.
- Review and approve accounting journals, including inventory adjustments, accruals, and other financial entries.
- Ensure accounting processes are accurate, efficient, well-documented, and aligned with company policies.
Inventory Accounting & Operational Coordination
- Collaborate with the warehouse and operations teams to coordinate cyclical inventory counts and improve inventory accuracy.
- Review inventory count results, investigate discrepancies, and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure proper reconciliation between inventory systems and the general ledger.
- Review inventory valuation, costing methodologies, write-offs, and adjustments.
- Support improvements to inventory controls, reporting processes, and operational efficiency.
- Review purchasing processes, including purchase order receiving, invoice matching, and cost accuracy.
- Ensure proper allocation of freight, duty, brokerage, drayage, and other landed costs.
Compliance, Internal Controls & Audit Management
- Maintain compliance with accounting standards, government regulations, and internal company policies.
- Work closely with the CFO and accounting team to coordinate tax compliance activities, government filings, and regulatory requirements.
- Review and support statutory filings, including HST, WSIB, corporate filings, and other required submissions.
- Coordinate internal and external audits by preparing financial schedules, documentation, and responding to audit requests.
- Develop, maintain, and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy.
- Identify control deficiencies, recommend corrective actions, and support implementation of process improvements.
- Maintain and update accounting SOPs to ensure consistency, efficiency, and ongoing compliance.
Banking & Financial Administration
- Manage banking-related requirements, including financial documentation, reconciliations, and reporting obligations.
- Prepare monthly covenant and regulatory reporting requirements requested by banking partners.
- Maintain banking, prepaid, fixed asset, intercompany, and accrued liability reconciliations.
- Support cash flow management and financial planning activities.
- Assist with insurance renewals by providing required financial information and supporting documentation.
- Ensure accounting records and documentation are organized, complete, and audit-ready.
Process Improvement, Automation & ERP Systems
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, reporting processes, and operational efficiency.
- Lead automation initiatives to reduce manual processes, improve accuracy, and enhance reporting capabilities.
- Support ERP implementation projects, system improvements, and workflow optimization.
- Develop scalable processes, reporting structures, and technology solutions to support business growth.
- Participate in cross-functional projects and provide financial expertise to support business decisions.
Cross-Border Operations & Tax Support
- Support U.S. and cross-border financial activities, reporting requirements, and accounting processes.
- Coordinate with the CFO, internal accountants, external advisors, and tax professionals on cross-border transactions and tax compliance matters.
- Support compliance with applicable government regulations and reporting requirements.
Leadership & Team Development
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to the accounting team while promoting accountability and continuous improvement.
- Conduct performance reviews for accounting team members and support professional development.
- Review accounting team deliverables to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company procedures.
- Establish priorities, improve team processes, and ensure deadlines are consistently achieved.
- Foster collaboration between accounting, operations, sales, warehouse, and other departments to support company objectives.
Additional Responsibilities
- Review and approve sales commission calculations and reconcile commission reports with sales records.
- Support management reporting and strategic initiatives as required by the CFO.
- Perform other accounting, financial, and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Pursuing or actively working toward a CPA designation is preferred.
- 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within an owner-managed, privately held, manufacturing, distribution, import/export, or inventory-driven organization.
- Strong experience managing full-cycle accounting operations, month-end close, financial reporting, and compliance requirements.
- Experience supporting multi-entity and multi-currency accounting environments.
- Strong knowledge of inventory accounting, costing methodologies, and inventory reconciliation.
- Experience working with ERP systems such as SAP, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics Business Central, or similar platforms.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including experience with:
- Pivot Tables
- Power Query
- XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, SUMIFS, and advanced formulas
- Financial modelling and reporting dashboards
- Data analysis and process automation
- Experience with Accounts Receivable management, customer credit analysis, cash flow management, and financial reporting.
- Experience supporting banking requirements, including covenant reporting and financial information requests.
- Strong understanding of internal controls, compliance requirements, SOP development, and process improvement.
- Experience supporting automation initiatives, workflow improvements, and ERP implementations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify risks, analyze trends, and provide practical recommendations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Pay: $65,723.41-$75,000.80 per year
