Lead Truck & Trailer Technician - On-Highway Fleet

Our client's organization plays a vital role in waste management and sustainability, serving communities across South Vancouver Island. Their team operates with integrity, accountability, and a shared commitment to sustainability, ensuring that every task contributes to a cleaner, safer future.

Our client is looking for a Lead Technician – On-Highway Fleet to join their team in Saanichton, BC. This full-time position involves overseeing the maintenance, repair, and reliability of commercial fleet vehicles, including trucks and trailers. The role combines shop-based work with field service, offering a dynamic and hands-on work environment.

Responsibilities

Diagnose, service, and repair trucks, trailers, and other commercial fleet assets.
Coordinate maintenance and repairs with external vendors and service providers.
Manage preventative maintenance schedules to minimize fleet downtime.
Review Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) and prioritize repairs based on defect reports.
Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards.
Track maintenance activities and performance using fleet management software.
Lead, mentor, and support technicians and apprentices to foster skill development.
Conduct inspections to identify potential issues before they escalate.
Train staff on best practices for fleet maintenance and safety.
Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities and repairs.

Qualifications

Journeyman Technician certification.
Experience in maintaining commercial on-highway fleets, preferably in waste or recycling operations.
Knowledge of DOT regulations and commercial vehicle compliance requirements.
Valid driver’s licence and clean driver's abstract.
Experience with fleet maintenance software (experience with Fleetio is an asset).
Ability to supply personal hand and power tools relevant to the trade.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
