Lead Heavy Duty Truck Technician - Off-Highway Equipment

Our client's organization plays a vital role in waste management and sustainability, serving communities across South Vancouver Island. Their team operates with integrity, accountability, and a shared commitment to sustainability, ensuring that every task contributes to a cleaner, safer future.

Our client is looking for a Lead Technician – Off-Highway Equipment to join their team in Saanichton, BC. This full-time position involves overseeing the maintenance, repair, and reliability of heavy off-highway and material-handling equipment. The role combines shop-based work with field service, providing a dynamic and engaging work environment. The schedule is Tuesday to Saturday, from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with all necessary tools and equipment provided.

Responsibilities

Diagnose, service, and repair loaders, excavators, telehandlers, and other heavy equipment.
Lead preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime and maximize equipment performance.
Coordinate maintenance schedules, parts procurement, and external service providers.
Supervise and mentor technicians and apprentices to foster skill development and teamwork.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance history and equipment performance using fleet management software.
Ensure strict compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Support initiatives aimed at improving asset reliability and operational efficiency.
Operate a company service truck to perform field repairs and maintenance as needed.
Collaborate with operations teams to address equipment issues promptly and effectively.
Train staff on best practices for equipment operation and maintenance.

Qualifications

Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician certification.
Experience repairing and maintaining off-highway and stationary heavy equipment.
Valid driver’s licence with a clean driver's abstract.
Familiarity with fleet management and work order software (experience with Fleetio is an asset).
Ability to supply personal hand and power tools relevant to the trade.
Excellent leadership and communication abilities.
