We are looking for a dependable, mechanically inclined Warehouse Associate / Cable Shop Hand to join our team. This is a hands-on position involving wire rope and rigging product fabrication, warehouse operations, material handling, and shipping and receiving.
Position Overview
The Warehouse Associate / Cable Shop Hand will support the day-to-day operation of our warehouse and cable shop. The successful candidate will assist with the preparation and fabrication of wire rope assemblies, handling and measuring cable, operating shop equipment, preparing customer orders, receiving materials, and maintaining an organized and safe work area.
This position is well suited to someone who enjoys physical, hands-on work, is mechanically inclined, and is comfortable working with industrial tools, machinery, wire rope, rigging hardware, and heavy materials.
Previous wire rope or rigging experience is an asset; however, training can be provided to the right candidate.
Wire Rope & Cable Shop Work
- Assist with the fabrication and preparation of wire rope slings and cable assemblies.
- Measure, cut, and prepare wire rope according to work orders and specifications.
- Assist with swaging, socketing, splicing, and assembly of wire rope products, as trained and authorized.
- Install and assemble rigging components such as thimbles, sleeves, hooks, shackles, sockets, and other fittings.
- Handle, coil, uncoil, and organize wire rope and cable safely.
- Assist with the operation of cable shop machinery and equipment after appropriate training.
- Use measuring devices and shop tools to ensure products meet required specifications.
- Tag, identify, and prepare completed assemblies for inspection and shipment.
- Follow established Safe Work Practices, Safe Job Procedures, manufacturer instructions, and company safety requirements.
- Assist experienced rigging and cable shop personnel with production and fabrication activities.
Shipping, Receiving & Order Fulfillment
- Receive and inspect incoming materials, wire rope, rigging hardware, and other products.
- Verify quantities, product identification, and condition against purchase orders and receiving documentation.
- Identify and report damaged, incorrect, or non-conforming materials.
- Pick, pack, and prepare customer orders accurately.
- Prepare products for shipment, including labeling, tagging, wrapping, and securing materials.
- Generate or assist with shipping documentation.
- Load and unload delivery vehicles safely.
- Ensure orders are complete and properly prepared before shipment.
Warehouse & Material Handling
- Move and organize wire rope, rigging hardware, pallets, and other industrial materials.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, hoists, and other material-handling equipment when trained and authorized.
- Assist with inventory counts and cycle counts.
- Maintain accurate product locations and inventory organization.
- Stock shelves, bins, racks, and designated storage areas.
- Identify and report inventory discrepancies.
- Maintain clear aisles, work areas, and emergency access routes.
Tools, Equipment & Shop Support
- Safely use hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, and other shop equipment as required.
- Complete required pre-use inspections of assigned equipment.
- Report damaged, defective, or unsafe tools and equipment.
- Assist with basic equipment care and housekeeping.
- Maintain cable shop and warehouse work areas in a clean and organized condition.
- Follow equipment lockout, guarding, and safety requirements where applicable.
Safety Responsibilities
- Follow all Canyon Rigging health and safety policies, procedures, Safe Work Practices, and Safe Job Procedures.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Participate in hazard assessments, toolbox meetings, inspections, and required safety training.
- Report hazards, near misses, incidents, damaged equipment, and unsafe conditions.
- Follow safe lifting and material-handling practices.
- Never operate machinery or equipment without appropriate training and authorization.
- Maintain awareness of pinch points, suspended loads, moving equipment, sharp wire strands, rotating machinery, and other cable shop hazards.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous warehouse, manufacturing, fabrication, rigging, wire rope, or industrial shop experience is an asset.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn wire rope fabrication and rigging processes.
- Comfortable working with hand tools and industrial equipment.
- Ability to accurately use a tape measure and follow measurements and work instructions.
- Ability to read and understand work orders, product information, and basic specifications.
- Forklift experience or certification is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work safely both independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work in a physically active industrial environment.
- Willingness to learn and follow established manufacturing and safety procedures.
Physical Requirements
The position involves regular physical activity in a warehouse and industrial cable shop environment, including:
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials.
- Handling wire rope, rigging hardware, and industrial products.
- Bending, reaching, kneeling, and repetitive material handling.
- Working around machinery, forklifts, hoists, wire rope, and industrial equipment.
- Wearing required PPE throughout applicable work activities.
