Position Summary:
The Child Care Supervisor is the designated person responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Child Care Centre. The Child Care Supervisor will be responsible for working effectively with staff, maintaining positive relationships with families and their children, connecting with the community and maintaining administrative responsibilities related to the daily operation of the Child Care Centre. The Child Care Supervisor is responsible for maintaining a positive atmosphere throughout the centre. The incumbent must follow the strategic plans of the organization, adhering to the HFN vision and values.
Reporting:
This position will report to the Child Care Manager. This position will oversee the work of Child Care employees and will have the Early Childhood Educators, Assistant Child Care Workers, Dietary Planner/Custodian, Language Teacher and other supply staff, contract and summer students reporting to them.
Main Responsibilities:
- Perform administration duties by:
- In conjunction with the Manager, ensures the operation complies with the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014
- Contributes to the development of policies and procedures
- Follows the policies and procedures that are required by the Ministry of Education and review with Health Manager and sent to Chief and Council for approval
- Assists with budgets and monitors expenditures on a weekly and monthly basis
- Assists the Child Care Manager with the preparation of Year End Fiscal reports for the Ministry of Education (Attestation report for fiscal budget and review with Finance)
- Assists with maintaining family’s files as required and maintain confidentiality
- Monitor, review, and approve staff absence requests and paid time off
- Create purchase orders for items needed in the Child Care Centre
- Evaluate all programs and prepare required reports, and submit Serious Occurrence Reports when necessary.
2.0. Program Development, Planning and Implementation:
- Assists with the planning, coordination, and supervision of all childcare programming and requirements to ensure the children’s safety, wellbeing, and positive learning experiences.
- In Managers absences, ensure the meal planning follows Canada’s Food Guide as well as Ministry’s nutrition requirements; posting planned menus in a place visible for parent’s
- Assists manager with development and implementation of plans for individual children I.e. Medical needs, allergies, special requirements.
- Familiarize with licensing requirements; continually be aware of changes within the Ministry as well as the College of ECE.
- Public Relations:
- Assess the needs of the children and community
- Liaise with the community and external agencies
- Work cooperatively and as a team member by:
- Oversee the daily operations and work of the Child Care Centre Staff; maintaining ratios and compliance
- Participate in programming and may be counted in ratios as necessary
- Participate in Staff meetings; research and recommend Professional Development opportunities for the childcare tea
- Provides guidance and feedback to staff and to manager on performance
- Training and motivating other staff members
- Be a member of the RECE Native Supervisors networking and the Peterborough and County RECE Supervisor Networking- to keep abreast of the changes in community and maintain a clear understanding of any areas the ministry is focusing on
5.0 Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Post-Secondary Diploma in Early Childhood Education or another relevant diploma is required;
- Registered or is eligible to be registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators is required
- Minimum three years’ relevant experience; or
- A combination of education, training or work experience which Hiawatha deems to be equivalent
- Supervisory and administrative experience
- Experience in a First Nations setting preferred
- Must provide a clear CPIC and VSC (documentation will be required if successful applicant)
- Must have up to date immunization (proof will be required if successful applicant)
- First Aid and CPR (and must be willing to take the training if hired)
- Valid Driver’s License is required and access to a vehicle is preferred
- Food Handlers Certificate
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience with computer programs (i.e. Microsoft Office, email and internet
- Knowledge of the Child Care Early Years Act
- Knowledge with using an environmental rating tool (i.e. ECERS/ITERS/SACERS DECA)
- Passionate about working with children
- Ability to work as an individual and as part of a team
- Well developed interpersonal, public relations and relationship building skills
- Excellent organizational, time and file management skills
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Familiar with duty to report requirements
- Knowledge of legislation and government agencies an asset
