Reporting to the Area Foreman, the Highway Maintenance Worker & Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy trucks and equipment used in highway maintenance. This position plays a key role in maintaining highways, ensuring the functionality and safety of roadways. The role requires a commitment to safety and the ability to work in physically demanding environments.

Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive environment

Operate equipment and perform manual labour duties related to:

road surface maintenance, including snow and ice control for winters
-
road side maintenance
-
traffic control maintenance
-
emergency/incident response
-
annual maintenance works
-
Types of equipment include, but are not limited to:
-
Tandem axle truck dump truck
-
Front-end loader with a 2 cubic metre bucket
-
Rubber-tired backhoe
-
Inspect, maintain, and operate equipment to company standards and promptly report all potential problems and defects
-
Complete all required documentation such as fuel logs, schedule forms, road reports, highway maintenance records, equipment repair requests, safety and environmental documentation as related to specific jobs

Understand and apply company performance standards for all highway maintenance activities
What You Bring
-
Valid BC Class3 with air brake endorsement or higher with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
-
2+years’ experience in highway maintenance is preferred
-
Good working knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations
-
Good knowledge of safety rules and regulations as they pertain to the driving and operation of vehicles, equipment, and machinery

Mechanical and operational aptitude
-
Physically fit, mentally alert with the ability to perform manual tasks outdoors in varying weather conditions
