The Role
The Development Team Lead is responsible for leading the design, development, delivery and support of digital transformation, automation and integration solutions across our enterprise platforms — including Salesforce and SAP — that improve business efficiency and enable strategic growth. Working in a hybrid Agile and Waterfall environment, you will collaborate with stakeholders across the business to translate requirements into scalable, high-quality technical solutions.
As a senior technical expert and experienced Python developer, you will provide technical leadership, mentor and develop other team members, promote engineering best practice, champion an AI-first mindset across the team's ways of working, and help drive continuous improvement across development processes, service delivery and solution architecture. This is a fully remote role with regular opportunities to meet colleagues in person at team and company events.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development and implementation of business automation, digital transformation and partner integration solutions
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to developers, analyst programmers and trainees
- Support the architectural design of applications, services and integrations
- Design, build and support integrations between core business platforms, including Salesforce and SAP, and internal and partner systems
- Work with business stakeholders to gather requirements, define use cases and develop user stories
- Contribute to solution estimation, sprint planning, retrospectives and delivery roadmaps
- Establish and promote Python development standards, best practice and coding principles across the team
- Develop high-quality, scalable and maintainable Python-based applications and services
- Lead the adoption of AI-assisted software development practices, embedding AI coding assistants and agentic tooling into day-to-day engineering workflows
- Set standards for the safe, effective and accountable use of AI in development, including code review, testing and security expectations for AI-generated code
- Design and implement automated testing and business process monitoring solutions
- Support User Acceptance Testing activities and work closely with end users throughout delivery
- Ensure appropriate monitoring, performance optimisation and operational support arrangements are in place
- Support live systems through Incident and Problem Management processes in line with ITIL principles
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable and secure technology solutions
- Drive the adoption of modern development tools, frameworks and AI technologies where appropriate, evaluating new capabilities as they emerge
- Maintain technical documentation and contribute to knowledge sharing across the team
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency through automation and process improvement
Skills & Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' commercial software development experience
- Advanced Python development skills, with Python as your primary programming language
- Experience with Flask, Django or similar Python frameworks
- Strong understanding of software design, architecture and development best practice
- Experience delivering and supporting business-critical applications and services
- Experience integrating enterprise business platforms such as Salesforce and SAP, using their APIs and data models
- Knowledge of automated testing and quality assurance principles
- Hands-on experience of AI-assisted software development, using tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude or Cursor as part of a professional workflow, with sound judgement on where AI adds value and where it does not
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments
- Proven ability to mentor, coach and develop technical team members
- Strong stakeholder management, communication and collaboration skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a remote environment
- Experience with Azure cloud technologies and serverless applications
- Experience developing APIs, integrations and microservices
- Experience building applications with LLM APIs, including prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation or agentic workflows
- Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka and modern deployment practices
- Strong SQL, data integration and data transformation skills
- Experience with Power BI, or the publishing/education technology sector
