Overview
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our team for a 9-week summer position funded through the Canada Summer Jobs 2026 program. The successful candidate will support instructors in delivering educational and enrichment activities for youth, assist with classroom preparation and student engagement, and contribute to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for students and recent graduates interested in education, youth development, or community programming to gain hands-on experience. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, enjoys working with young people, and possesses strong communication and interpersonal skills. Experience with educational technology or tutoring is considered an asset.
Responsibilities
Instructional Support:
o Helping the teacher prepare instructional materials.
o Setting up classroom equipment and resources.
o Leading small group activities or discussion sections.
o Assisting individual students with assignments and understanding course material.
o Teaching lessons or parts of lessons under the supervision of the main teacher.
o Offering additional academic support to students who need extra help.
o Conducting review sessions before exams or quizzes.
Classroom Management:
o Helping to manage student behaviours during class.
o Implementing classroom rules and procedures.
o Supervising students during non-classroom times such as lunch, recess, or field trips.
Administrative Support:
o Assisting with grading assignments, tests, and exams.
o Recording grades and maintaining student performance records.
o Handling attendance records.
o Photocopying, filing, and distributing materials.
o Facilitating communication between the teacher and students or parents.
o Relaying information about student progress and behaviour to parents and teachers.
Student Support:
o Providing one-on-one support to students with special needs.
o Modifying instructional materials to accommodate different learning styles and needs.
o Helping students develop social skills and resolve conflicts.
o Supporting students' emotional well-being.
Technology and Resource Management:
o Helping students and teachers with the use of technology and digital tools.
o Troubleshooting technical issues.
o Managing classroom supplies and instructional materials.
o Organizing and maintaining the classroom environment.
Professional Development:
o Participating in professional development opportunities.
o Keeping up to date with educational best practices and policies.
o Collaborating with other teachers, TAs, and school staff to support student learning and school initiatives.
o Participating in staff meetings and collaborative planning sessions.
By fulfilling these roles, teaching assistants play a crucial part in enhancing the educational experience for students and supporting the primary teacher in creating an effective learning environment.
