Position Overview
UP Vertical Farms, a pioneering leader in sustainable vertical farming and agri-technology, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Food Safety, Quality Assurance & Lab Supervisor to lead food safety, quality, lab and sanitation operations.
This role is responsible for overseeing all food safety programs, quality assurance systems, laboratory testing and sanitation activities to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and internal standards. Additionally, this role is responsible for creating, monitoring, inspecting, and verifying SKU verification, product quality, storage, labelling throughout the production, harvesting, and packaging processes. Ideal candidates will have experience in food production, agriculture, manufacturing, or quality assurance environments and demonstrate strong attention to detail, regulatory compliance, documentation accuracy, continuous improvement initiatives and a commitment to food safety and cleanliness.
This is a permanent, full-time position within the Food Safety and Quality department. The role reports to the Food Safety & Quality Manager and works closely with Operations, R&D, and grow teams. Work is primarily scheduled during daytime hours, with some evening, weekend, and occasional on-call responsibilities based on production and audit requirements.
This is a Full-Time position within the Food Safety, Quality and Sanitation Department, working closely with Operations, HR, Accounting and Grow/R&D teams. The position reports to the Food Safety, Quality and Sanitation Manager and senior leadership, with a work schedule that includes weekdays, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays depending on operational needs.
Work is performed in a climate-controlled indoor vertical farming facility and may involve standing for extended periods, repetitive tasks, and lifting moderate weights. Performance is evaluated by a supervisor based on the effectiveness of quality systems, accuracy of inspections and records, compliance with food safety protocols, and contribution to the overall success of the company’s mission to deliver safe, sustainable, locally grown food year-round.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct quality inspections on products to ensure compliance with company standards
- Assist in the development and refinement of quality control procedures.
- Perform thorough inspections of incoming and outgoing products to ensure they meet company quality standards.
- Conduct routine quality checks on store inventory to ensure ongoing compliance with quality standards.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of quality inspections and findings.
- Collaborate with store staff and other departments to address and resolve quality-related issues.
- Collect and analyze data to identify areas for improvement in the production process
- Collaborate with the Quality and Grow team to address quality issues promptly
- Implement and maintain quality assurance procedures to uphold product quality at store level
- Manage merchandising and branding in store
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Food Science, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a related field
- Minimum 2–4 years of experience in food safety, quality assurance, or regulated food production environments
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience is strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of:
- Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR)
- HACCP systems and audit processes
- Food safety and sanitation standards
- Ability to perform detailed quality inspections and analyze results effectively
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in work
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, etc.)
- Strong communication skills to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
- Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s License
- Must have a car
