AVP Strategy Enterprise and Commercial is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Commercial Analyst, for approximately 12 months.
The University of Calgary seeks a highly analytical, process' oriented, and collaborative Commercial Analyst to support a portfolio of revenue-generating and mission-critical commercial activities that shape the student experience, campus vibrancy, academic and research missions, and the financial sustainability of the institution.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Commercial, the Commercial Analyst plays a pivotal role in supporting day-to-day commercial portfolio management, agreement administration, analysis, reporting, and systems stewardship. The role acts as a key operational and analytical bridge between senior commercial leadership and operational processes in execution, enabling the senior commercial leaders to focus on strategic deal-making and portfolio agreement growth while providing clear direction, structure, and support to commercial agreement administration both from within the department and through other business partners.
The Commercial Analyst supports commercial agreements spanning land development, partnerships, joint investments, commercial operations, and commercial real estate portfolios and contributes to continuous improvement of commercial processes, tools, systems, and data governance.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Commercial Portfolio & Agreement Support

Support ongoing management of the commercial agreement portfolio, including tracking key terms, milestones, renewals, financial obligations, and performance indicators.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date agreement summaries, registers, and dashboards to support informed decision-making.

Act as a first point of operational support for interpreting agreements, escalating material issues or risks to the senior commercial leaders as required.

Coordinate routine agreement administration activities, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and adherence to established processes.
Financial Analysis, Reporting & Insights

Prepare financial models, forecasts, variance analyses, and scenario assessments to support commercial agreements and business cases.

Track revenue, cost recovery, and financial performance of commercial agreements, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.

Develop regular reporting packages, dashboards, and briefing materials for senior leadership and internal stakeholders.

Support institutional budgeting and forecasting activities related to commercial revenue streams.
Process Improvement & Small Project Delivery

Identify opportunities to streamline, standardize, and improve commercial processes, reporting, templates, and workflows.

Lead or support small to mid-sized projects related to commercial operations, systems implementation, or process redesign.

Document procedures, playbooks, and guidance materials to improve consistency and scalability of commercial practices.

Support change adoption by working closely with stakeholders to embed new tools and ways of working.
Systems, Data & Digital Stewardship

Act as the functional owner or super-user for commercial data and systems (e.g., agreement registers, databases, dashboards, document repositories).

Ensure data integrity, version control, and auditability of commercial records and reporting.

Work with IT, Finance, and other partners to enhance digital tools and reporting capabilities.

Support data analysis requests related to commercial performance, agreements, and portfolio insights.
Coordination, Stakeholder Support & Team Enablement

Provide day-to-day direction, prioritization support, and quality assurance to the Commercial Administrator.

Coordinate inputs across Finance, Legal, Risk, Facilities, HSSE, and other partners to support agreement execution and reporting.

Prepare draft correspondence, reporting materials, and analysis for review by the senior commercial leaders.

Serve as a collaborative and reliable partner to internal stakeholders requiring commercial data or operational support.
Governance, Risk & Continuous Improvement

Support contract governance activities, ensuring documentation, approvals, and records are complete and compliant.

Assist with risk identification, tracking, and mitigation actions across the commercial portfolio.

Contribute to post-implementation reviews and lessons-learned exercises to strengthen future commercial decision-making.
Qualifications / Requirements:
-
Undergraduate degree in business, finance, economics, engineering, data analytics, or a related field; a graduate degree is an asset.

5-10 years of relevant experience in commercial analysis, portfolio management, financial analysis, or business operations.

Strong financial and analytical skills, including experience with financial modelling, forecasting, and data analysis.

Experience supporting commercial agreements, real estate portfolios, or long-term contracts is an asset.

Demonstrated experience in process improvement, systems support, or project coordination.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Power BI or similar reporting and analytics tools.

Experience working in large, complex organizations; experience in higher education or public-sector environments is an asset.
