Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineering Technologist will support the mechanical design, development, improvement, and implementation of new and existing products, components, assemblies, and equipment. This role will provide hands-on mechanical engineering technology support, including assistance with 3D modelling, engineering drawings, prototyping, testing, validation, design-for-manufacture input, technical documentation, and equipment modification activities.
The role will also assist the Executive Vice President with project coordination responsibilities related to project assessment, planning, scheduling, execution, implementation, and reporting. This includes supporting the equipment modification process, participating in project submittal assessments, contributing to project scopes and schedules, coordinating internal resources, tracking timelines and budgets, and communicating project updates, risks, delays, or changes in a timely manner.
A focus on accurate record keeping, clear communication, technical documentation, collaboration, and adherence to project timelines is necessary.
Responsibilities
- Support the mechanical design and development of products, components, assemblies, and equipment in accordance with project and operational requirements.
- Support the drafting department with the creation, revision, and maintenance of 3D CAD models, detailed engineering drawings, layouts, and related technical documentation for manufacturing, assembly, testing, and service.
- Assist the drafting department with preparing and updating engineering drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, notes, and revision controls.

- Assist with the development, review, and maintenance of Bills of Materials (BOMs), material cut-lists, production documentation, and assembly-related records.
- Support product development, product improvement, equipment modification, prototyping, testing, validation, and implementation activities as directed by the Executive Vice President.
- Contribute to the design of products and components for manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, quality, durability, and cost efficiency.
- Support the implementation of lean manufacturing concepts, quality assurance practices, and design-for-manufacture principles within product and process design.
- Research, evaluate, and source mechanical components, materials, equipment, tooling, and external technical resources required for planned or scheduled projects.
- Assist with the review of supplier information, technical specifications, quotations, samples, and product data to support design and procurement decisions.
- Oversee and support the Equipment Modification process, including technical assessment, documentation, coordination, implementation tracking, and completion records.
- Ensure proper technical record keeping, drawing control, validation documentation, and supporting project documentation are maintained in accordance with internal policy.
- Assist the Executive Vice President with conducting project submittal assessments, as per Executive Committee direction.
- Assist the Executive Vice President with developing project strategies, scopes, schedules, milestones, and implementation plans.
- Coordinate internal resources and support the execution of mechanical design, product development, equipment modification, and process improvement projects.
- Schedule project planning meetings, technical design reviews, milestone reviews, and other project-related meetings as required.
- Prepare presentation materials, technical summaries, project documentation, and other supporting materials for meetings and project reviews.
- Capture meeting minutes, document decisions, assign action items to associated personnel, and follow up to support timely completion.
- Monitor project progress, timelines, deliverables, and budget-related items, and communicate delays, risks, changes, or resource concerns to the Executive Vice President in a timely manner.
- Accurately track internal labour, material, service, and external resource expenses for budgetary purposes, internal reporting, and funding and/or grant documentation.
- Prepare and maintain project progress reports, status updates, completion reports, and final project summaries.
- Establish and/or maintain working relationships with suppliers, vendors, software developers, consultants, and other third-party service providers as required to support technical and project objectives.
- Assist with the creation, revision, and maintenance of internal and external product technical documentation, including specifications, manuals, data sheets, assembly instructions, service information, and supporting product records.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements
- Completed post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related engineering field.
- Minimum of one (1) year of on-the-job experience in mechanical engineering technology, mechanical design, manufacturing, product development, project coordination, or a related technical field.
- Technical and mechanical proficiency at an expert level, with hands-on experience in mechanical components and assemblies.
- Preferred experience with Fusion 360 for 3D CAD modelling and detailed drawings; proficiency with other 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, or equivalent will also be considered.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (e.g., fabrication, machining, welding, assembly) and design-for-manufacture principles.
- Project management training and/or practical project coordination experience.
- Solid organizational skills, including multitasking, prioritization, and time-management in a project-based environment.
- Strong familiarity with risk management, quality assurance control, lean manufacturing concepts, and ISO 9001:2015 (or equivalent) architecture.
- Computer literacy, with emphasis on project management tools, CAD tools, and the Microsoft Office suite; familiarity with Adobe Illustrator and InDesign considered an asset.

- Some travel may be required (e.g., supplier visits, site visits, testing, or training).

Pay: $58,000.00-$62,000.00 per year
