1. PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Industry and Visitor Services Intern will support travel planning and on-the-ground visitor services, assist with promotion of regional assets and incentives, and contribute to the delivery of programs, events, and outreach activities. The successful applicant will support the promotion of Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival, including its cultural assets, accommodations, dining experiences, and tourism incentives for all attendees and visitors. Working closely with festival staff and community partners, they will play a key role in showcasing Sudbury as a vibrant destination for film, arts, and culture.
2. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of the Industry and Visitor Services Intern include (but are not limited to):
- Serving as a front-line point of contact for industry guests (producers, directors, funders, stakeholders), responding to in-person, phone, and email inquiries in a professional and welcoming manner;
- Providing accurate information on Cinéfest events, networking opportunities, and regional incentives;
- Providing personalized recommendations on local attractions, cultural experiences, dining options, accommodations, and transportation services to enhance visitor experiences;
- Supporting the coordination and delivery of industry events, networking opportunities, film screenings, and hospitality activities during the festival;
- Assisting with the development and distribution of visitor information materials, guides, welcome packages, and promotional resources;
- Assisting visitors with travel support, including itineraries, flight and accommodation recommendations and bookings;
- Liaising with hotels, transportation providers, restaurants, and other tourism partners to support visitor needs and requests;
- Promoting Sudbury's film industry assets, production services, locations, and economic development opportunities to industry delegates;
- Assisting with accreditation, registration, and check-in processes for festival guests and industry participants;
- Collaborating with regional stakeholders to book meetings;
- Collecting, recording, and analyzing tourism and visitor services data for reporting purposes post-festival;
- Monitoring visitor inquiries and ensuring timely follow-up to provide exceptional customer service;
- Identifying opportunities to promote local businesses, attractions, and community partners to festival attendees and visitors;
- Assisting with the preparation of reports, presentations, and post-event evaluations related to visitor services and industry engagement;
- Supporting accessibility and inclusion initiatives to ensure a welcoming experience for all visitors and guests;
- Performing additional related duties as assigned in support of festival operations and visitor services objectives.
3. INTERACTION WITH PATRONS AND PUBLIC
The Industry and Visitor Services Intern will be required to interact directly with Cinéfest patrons, industry delegates, and film guests through e-mail, phone, and in-person communication.
4. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
There are no day-to-day physical demands associated with the Industry and Visitor Services Intern. From time to time there will be setup related to various activities that Cinéfest Sudbury is involved in that will require the Industry and Visitor Services Intern's attention.
5. WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT
In general, Cinéfest Sudbury operates on a 35-hour work week, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday (with an hour for lunch).
6. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
The Industry and Visitor Services Intern is required to demonstrate the following abilities/knowledge base:
- The ability to maintain an organized and efficient work environment;
- Outstanding organization and time management skills;
- The ability to multitask effectively;
- The ability to research using online and traditional media;
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office; especially Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- A high level of initiative and attention to detail;
- Bilingualism (French and English) will be considered a principal asset, as Cinéfest Sudbury operates on a bilingual basis.
