EARLY CHILDHOOD ASSISTANT
EMPLOYMENT STATUS:
2 Position – Kitchener Location
8-Week Summer Placement (with potential for extension)
Hours/Week: 37.5 hours, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Wage: $19.00/hour
Work Location: In-Office (On-Site)
We're in search of a passionate and culturally attuned Early Childhood Educator (ECE) to join our Indigenous-led EarlyON. You will be responsible for nurturing and fostering the development of young children in a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment. Your role involves planning and implementing age-appropriate activities, promoting social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth in children, and collaborating with families and colleagues to ensure comprehensive care and education.
Organization Overview
Anishnabeg Outreach (AO) is a large and rapidly expanding Indigenous-led non-profit and registered charity dedicated to empowering First Nations, Métis, and Inuit individuals and families through culturally grounded programs in
mental health, employment, training, and education.
AO’s online platform,
AO Nest, delivers accessible, self-directed wellness modules, resources, and culturally rooted teachings. The
Mental Health Content Developer & Agency Liaison role supports this mission by helping create and adapt digital content that promotes mental wellness, accessibility, and reconciliation.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
These positions are funded by the Canada Summer Jobs fund. In order to be considered for this job you must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Registered with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators or are working towards becoming a Registered Early Childhood Educator
- Experience working with young children in a childcare, preschool, or educational setting.
- Strong understanding of child development theories and best practices in early childhood education.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to adapt to the needs of diverse learners and create inclusive learning environments.
- Patience, creativity, and a passion for working with young children.
PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES
- Research, build, and facilitate programming that engages parents, caregivers, and children in play-based learning opportunities.
- Develop and implement programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children.
- Lead activities by telling or reading stories, songs and providing opportunities to express creativity through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity.
- Plan and maintain a safe environment that fosters good health, safety and well being of children in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
- Responsible for reporting online statistical data (i.e., attendance logs, etc.)
- Maintain a safe, clean, and engaging environment.
- On-going communication with parents/guardians
- Participate in staff meetings and agency meetings as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Reports to the EarlyON Manager
Preferred candidates should possess a profound comprehension of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit matters, alongside a strong understanding of equity-related issues.
