Design/Build Salesperson — Vandenberg LandscapesHelp families build outdoor spaces they will actually live in
Most landscape companies sell projects.
We are building something bigger than that.
At Vandenberg Landscapes, we create outdoor spaces that bring people together. The kind of spaces where families eat outside again, kids grow up with dirt on their shoes, neighbours gather around a fire, and clients feel proud every time they pull into the driveway.
But great landscapes do not happen by accident. They happen because someone helps the client get clear on what they want, why it matters, what it will take, and whether we are the right team to build it.
That is the role of our Design/Build Salesperson.
This is not a job for someone who wants to “quote jobs.” This is a role for someone who wants to lead people through a high-trust decision, protect the company from the wrong-fit work, and help the right-fit clients move forward with confidence.
We are hiring a full-time Design/Build Salesperson based out of Chilliwack, BC, serving our design/build service area.
Compensation: $70,000 base plus 3.5% commission on top-line sales.
The vision
Vandenberg Landscapes is growing from a strong design/build company into a more scalable, more focused, more professional organization.
That means we cannot rely on one owner, one estimator, or one “unicorn” salesperson to carry the future of the company.
We are building a sales system that attracts the right clients, sells the right work, protects margin, creates clarity for design and operations, and gives our team a better life because the company is selling work it can actually deliver well.
The person in this seat will help shape that future.
You will be one of the first guides a client meets. You will help them understand our process. You will ask the hard questions early. You will qualify fit. You will sell the value of design. You will lead the client from interest to decision. And when the job is sold, you will hand it off with enough clarity that the production team can build what was promised.
When this role is done well, everybody wins:
- The client feels led, not sold to.
- Design gets a clear brief instead of a vague wish list.
- Estimating prices the right scope.
- Operations receives a buildable promise.
- The company grows with focus instead of chasing every lead.
- The salesperson has a real path toward future sales leadership.
That is the opportunity.
Is this you?
You like high-trust, high-value selling.
You can talk about budget, scope, timing, and decision-making without making it awkward. You know that clarity is kind. You would rather ask the right question early than waste three weeks chasing a client who was never a fit.
You are disciplined enough to follow a process and sharp enough to read the room.
You do not need to be the designer. You do not need to be the estimator. We have people for that. Your job is to create clarity, sell the design process, guide the client through the decision, and make sure the team has what it needs to win.
You are not looking for a loose sales role where success is based on charm, discounts, or heroic follow-up. You want a clear process, a real scorecard, strong support, and a company that is serious about building something.
The work
You will lead the front end of our design/build sales process.
That includes:
- Responding quickly and professionally to new inquiries.
- Qualifying whether the client, project, budget, timing, and location are a strong fit.
- Running discovery conversations that uncover what the client really wants and why it matters.
- Meeting clients on site when the opportunity is worth pursuing.
- Selling the design proposal and helping clients understand the value of planning before building.
- Coordinating with design and estimating so the proposed solution is clear, buildable, and aligned with the client’s priorities.
- Presenting pricing with confidence and context.
- Managing follow-up without letting opportunities drift.
- Asking for the decision.
- Handing sold work to operations with clean notes, clear scope, and no vague promises.
This is not order-taking.
This is not chasing every lead.
This is not throwing numbers at a client and hoping they say yes.
This is professional selling inside a design/build company that cares about the client experience, the team experience, and the quality of what gets built.
What success looks like
Once you are ramped up, success in this role looks like this:
- New inquiries receive a fast, professional response within 12 hours.
- Strong-fit clients leave every conversation knowing the next step.
- You are selling roughly 4 design agreements per month.
- You are helping move approximately $500,000 in proposal value sold per month.
- Qualified design-ready leads close at 75%+ because the process is clear and the opportunity is a real fit.
- After a design deposit, the process keeps moving toward final design and pricing within 21 days.
- Sold jobs are handed off cleanly so operations can build what was promised.
- The pipeline is visible, current, and reviewed weekly.
The goal is not just more sales.
The goal is better sales: better-fit clients, better expectations, better handoffs, better margins, and a stronger company.
Where this can go
This role matters because it is part of the next stage of Vandenberg.
We are building a company where sales, design, estimating, and operations work as one team. As the business grows, we will need more clarity, more leadership, and more ownership in the sales function.
If you can sell with discipline, protect fit and margin, follow the process, improve the process, and produce results, this role can grow into greater pipeline ownership and future sales leadership.
We want someone who sees that path and gets excited by it.
Why Vandenberg
We build landscapes that are meant to be used, not just admired.
We care about how the process feels, not only how the finished project looks. A beautiful landscape matters. But so does the way the client is led, the way the team is treated, the way promises are made, and the way the work is handed off.
Our mission is simple:
We create outdoor spaces that bring people together.
Our values shape how we do that:
- People First — clients and teammates are treated with care and respect.
- Purpose Built — we ask why, design with intent, and build with clarity.
- Own the Outcome — no excuses, no vague handoffs, no passing the problem downstream.
- Better Together — sales, design, estimating, and operations win as one team.
If those values sound like wall art to you, this will not be the right fit.
If they sound like the way a serious company should operate, keep reading.
What we provide
You will not be dropped into chaos and told to “go sell.”
We provide:
- A design/build process with clear stages from inquiry through design, proposal, and handoff.
- Dedicated design and estimating support so you can stay focused on selling.
- A strong company story, real portfolio, and established client demand.
- Coaching, scorecard review, and weekly pipeline accountability.
- A team that expects clarity, ownership, and follow-through.
- A company vision big enough for the right person to grow with.
This is not for you if…
- You avoid direct conversations about budget, scope, or decision-making.
- You need discounts, pressure, or overpromising to close work.
- You want to be the designer, estimator, and salesperson all at once.
- You blame design, estimating, or operations instead of closing loops.
- You are casual with follow-up, notes, or client commitments.
- You complain about clients instead of leading them through the process.
- You want sales freedom without scorecard accountability.
- You would rather chase every lead than build a focused pipeline of right-fit work.
