About the opportunity

Dalhousie University invites applications from qualified candidates for a 0.5FTE 1-year limited term Instructor position (potential for renewal) in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience, affiliated with our CPA Accredited Clinical Psychology Program. The position is available to start as early as July 1, 2026 with teaching expected to start in the Fall term.

Dalhousie University (www.dal.ca) is located in the vibrant ocean-side city of Halifax, Nova Scotia, which offers an excellent quality of life, including active local food, arts, and music scenes, easy access to outdoor activities, and high-quality health and education centres. Dalhousie University’s Psychology and Neuroscience Department is the top Psychology and Neuroscience Department in Atlantic Canada. The department is one-of-a-kind and was established for research into what makes humans and animals behave the way they do, as well as to understand the structure and function of the nervous system. Dalhousie University’s Clinical Psychology PhD program is based on a scientist-practitioner model and is designed to give our graduates a thorough grounding in science, research and clinical practice. Students are focused on research from the beginning of the program. Students also start applied training in their first year and continue throughout the program. Due to our emphasis on the science of psychology, our program produces clinical psychologists who blend the ideals of research and service.

The Instructor will teach three clinically-focused psychology courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and contribute to the department through various service activities (e.g., committee work). The position requires the applicant to be physically present in Halifax for various duties, though some components of teaching may also be handled online. The preferred online learning management system at Dalhousie is Brightspace.

Research is not a required component of this position. However, in keeping with the nature of the Psychology and Neuroscience Department, we will support the successful applicant in developing or continuing to develop their research program, if desired.

Candidates must have completed a PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology and a CPA or an APA accredited residency and should be registered in the province of Nova Scotia or eligible for registration. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated teaching excellence and experience in teaching both graduate and undergraduate psychology courses.
