Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.
Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.
Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Operations Manager to join our Mount Milligan Mine team. Direct applications to be considered, however noting that this role is primarily being managed directly with an external recruitment agency.
As a senior member of the Mount Milligan Management Team, the Operations Manager provides leadership, direction, and oversight for all operational activities across mining, maintenance, and milling. The role is accountable for safe, efficient, and cost‐effective execution of mine development, ore extraction, processing, and asset maintenance while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.
The Operations Manager acts as the site leader in the absence of the General Manager and plays a critical role in achieving safety, production, cost, and performance objectives in alignment with approved plans and budgets.
Key Responsibilities:
General Leadership & Governance
- Serve as Assistant General Manager for the site, providing leadership, continuity, and decision-making authority in the General Manager’s absence.
- Lead, mentor, and develop Operations leadership teams, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Align departmental and individual objectives with business goals, ensuring effective performance management, career development, and succession planning.
- Contribute to site-wide strategic planning, organizational effectiveness, and long-term operational improvement initiatives.
- Support positive relationships with regulators, contractors, and other external stakeholders.
Safety Leadership
- Provide visible safety leadership, establishing clear expectations, modeling safe behaviors, and reinforcing that safe production is the only acceptable outcome across all operations.
- Ensure robust safety and risk management systems, maintaining full compliance with regulatory requirements and holding leaders accountable for effective hazard identification, critical control management, and incident prevention.
- Embed safety into operational decision‑making, ensuring planning, budgeting, scheduling, and performance management consistently prioritize the health and safety of employees, contractors, and communities.
Production & Technical Integration
- Lead integration between Mine Operations, Mine Technical Services, Processing, and Maintenance functions to ensure safe, efficient, and coordinated execution of short-, medium-, and long-term operational plans.
- Ensure planning processes are robust, reliable, repeatable, and fully integrated across Mining, Processing, Maintenance, and Technical Services departments.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency, mine-to-mill optimization, asset utilization, and reduction of operational variability.
- Ensure technical and operational decisions are supported by sound engineering practices, risk management principles, and compliance with applicable regulatory and corporate standards.
- Collaborate with corporate technical teams and external consultants, as required, to support life-of-mine planning, operational optimization, and major project execution.
Asset Integrity & Maintenance
- Ensure maintenance systems and reliability programs support safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of fixed and mobile assets.
- Monitor asset performance and reliability metrics, ensuring timely resolution of equipment and process issues.
- Oversee PM and shutdown planning and execution to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and within schedule and budget expectations.
Financial & Cost Management
- Coordinate operating budgets for Mining, Maintenance, and Processing departments.
- Manage operational expenditures within approved budgets and reforecast as required to achieve the plans.
- Ensure all operational and capital projects are properly scoped, budgeted, monitored, and delivered within time, quality, and cost constraints.
- Understand key cost drivers and lead initiatives to continuously improve unit cost performance.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Establish systems and processes that ensure production targets are met while minimizing losses and variability.
- Promote and reward innovation that improves mining, maintenance, and processing methods and outcomes.
- Influence and implement best practices in operational planning and execution.
- Optimize asset utilization to achieve high-quality outcomes at the lowest sustainable cost.
Our ideal candidate will possess the following skillset and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or Mineral Processing (preferred) or a closely related technical discipline.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in mining operations.
- At least 10 years in progressively senior leadership roles within operations.
- Demonstrated experience managing large, complex operations with strong safety, cost, and production accountability. Previous Operations Manager experience is an asset.
- Extensive experience working within operating and capital budgets, including forecasting and cost control.

- Proven ability to integrate technical, operational, and financial considerations into effective decision-making.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
- Experience driving operational excellence, reliability improvement, and cultural change initiatives is an asset.
Working Conditions
- Camp-based role working 12-hour days on a 14 day on, 14 day off rotation, with accommodation provided during rotation (flexible alternative schedules to be considered such as a 7 day on, 7 day off rotation, etc.).
- Exposure to indoor/outdoor environments, heavy equipment, noise, and moving parts.
- PPE always required.
- Safety-sensitive environment with zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy.
- Bus transportation provided from regional locations.
