We're looking to welcome 2 Community Support Workers to support people with developmental disabilities in a group home.
There are 2 part-time positions available:
Position 1 (31 hours per week): Saturday (10am-10pm), Sunday (12pm-9pm), Monday (5pm-10pm), Tuesday (5pm-10pm)
Position 2 (17 hours per week): Friday (3pm-9pm), Saturday (9am-1pm), Sunday (9am to 12pm, and 6pm-10pm)
Position Overview
The Community Support Worker supports individuals with developmental disabilities (Core Members) living in a L'Arche home. This role involves assisting Core Members in all aspects of daily living, including personal care, health and safety, social and emotional support, spiritual support, and household responsibilities. The Community Support Worker fosters a supportive, inclusive, and respectful environment that promotes the dignity of every person, nurtures everyone’s gifts, and builds mutual relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Relationship & Atmosphere

Build respectful and mutual relationships with Core Members (e.g., listening with empathy, providing emotional support and encouragement, sharing stories and activities together).

Foster a welcoming and inclusive home atmosphere that reflects the personality and preferences of all house members.

Encourage active participation in the home and community.
Individual Support Planning & Documentation
-
Assist in developing and implementing Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and behavioral support plans.

Support Core Members to build and maintain skills and gifts to promote personal growth, independence and contribution to the home and community.

Support Core Members in making decisions that affect their life, maximizing their choices and participation.

Maintain accurate documentation in all areas as directed: financial, medical, log notes, medication, incident reports, assessments, etc.
Health & Safety
-
Observe and report changes in health, behaviors, and well-being.

Administer medication.
-
Respond to emergencies and provide First Aid when needed.

Support Core Members during hospital stays and healthcare appointments.

Be knowledgeable about and adhere to all safety and emergency procedures.

Promote a safe environment by identifying and reporting hazards and taking immediate action when necessary.
Personal Care & Daily Living

Provide respectful assistance with all aspects of daily living: hygiene, grooming, dressing, eating, mobility, etc.

Support meal planning, grocery shopping, meal preparation, and safe food handling.

Assist Core Members with money management, appointments, transportation, and household chores.

Assist in maintaining the physical home, vehicle, and equipment, including cleaning and housekeeping tasks, seasonal yard care, minor repairs, etc.
Community Access & Advocacy

Help Core Members access community resources (e.g., medical, legal, employment, recreation, spiritual communities).

Communicate with guardians, healthcare and other professionals.

Support Core Members to build and maintain social connections with friends and family, neighbors, the wider L’Arche family, etc.

Accompany Core Members on outings including places of worship, social and recreational, shopping, etc.
Other Duties

Fulfill other duties as required to support the Core Members, and the functioning of the home and community.
Qualifications and Experience
Required:

Grade 12 or equivalent
-
Acceptable Police Information Check that includes the Vulnerable Sector Check
Preferred:
-
Certificate in Community Support Work, Disability Studies, Social Services, Health Care Aide, or related field

Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities
-
Driver’s license and driving experience
